VW China outsells German market

Volkswagen has for the first time ever sold more cars in China than it did in its home market of Germany.

For the first half of 2009 the manufacturer sold 652,000 units in China while selling 631,900 vehicles on home soil. Both figures represent an increased demand for VW vehicles.

In 2008 Volkswagen saw a 22.7 per cent increase over that same period in China while in Germany sales increased 18.3 per cent.

For comparison, Volkswagen saw a five per cent fall in global demand, mostly due to slowing sales elsewhere in Europe and in Northern America (selling 1,662,900 and 221,900 units respectively).

The figures include all vehicles in the Volkswagen group such as Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Seat, Skoda and VW.
