I'm wondering when this dream uprising of China will end. I read somewhere that many car manufacturers aim for a million-plus cars sold in a year. That is quite scary considering the cars aren't very modern in terms of safety ratings and emissions.

AW,

VW do sell a lot of private cars in china, including jetta, passat, golf and polo. You will see these cars on street all the time.

Most VW Taxis are a model called 'Santana', which I think is designed in China (pretty ugly) but they are quite cheap and reliable.

As I recall, VW was actually the 1st foreign car company that start to build cars in China, in late 80s, their brand in China had been established for over 20 years, so it is not a surprise for them to make really good $$$.

Whilst this is great news for VW, I recently returned from China and literally all of their taxis are VW's, so these figures may be slightly distorted. They do seem to be a popular car for the public though as well. But there are a lot more VW taxis, than VW private cars in China.
