Volkswagen Tiguan
We must be the last motoring site to have covered the Volkswgen Tiguan, but its better late than never. Volkswagen 14th model series, the new Volkswagen Tiguan SUV will hit the display stands at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September.
Volkswagen says the Tiguan was conceived as a borderliner between the urban world and endless landscapes, right, stuck in traffic for 3 hrs a day seems more accurate.
Volkswagen will be offering the Tiguan with a choice of five turbocharged engines. Three TSI and two TDI engines. The two turbo-diesel (TDI) engines produce 103 kW / 320Nm and 125 kW / 350Nm.
Volkswagen, as well as other European manufacturers have been hard at work to meet the exceptional European emission standards, Euro-5, which comes into affect in 2009, both TDI engines already meet the Euro-5 standards.
As for the turbocharged petrol engines, there is a choice of a 110 kW / 240Nm and the new 125 kW / 280 Nm and 147 kW / 280Nm engines.
Volkswagen is encouraging all interested fans to visit www.tiguan-base.com.

The production model of the Volkswagen Tiguan is much closer to the concept car than to the spy pics we have recently seen. If you want to know/see more about the Tiguan especially about the design process visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HN0YhUt9aAQ
or go to the official Tiguan Base: www.tiguan.com

Easy to see that VW’s star is on the rise. There cars look great and fresh compared to some of the crap designs out there and they are to be congratulated heaps for making there cars look sensational. LOVE SOME OF THERE DESIGNS AND IAM NOT A VW SUPPORTER!!! Maybe as Iam a FORD SUPPORTER, Ford could get some design hints as the crap designs they dish out are good reason why they are on the nose. Ever since the day they signed of on that dogs breakfast of a rubbish pile the AU, they have had lacklustre designs on the shelves to sell to the public! THE FORD FAMILY IN AMERICA MUST BE UPSET AT THE CRAP DESIGNS OUT THERE THEY SELL AND HOLDEN HAS CAPITALISED ON IT.

If they want to compete with BMW X3 than VW Tiguan should be offered with the excellent VW / Audi V6 3.0 litre Turbo Diesel engine already available in Audi A4, A6, Q7 and Touareg.
I think that 2.0 litre TD engine will struggle with the weight of this SUV which is about 1650 kg.
The BMW X3 3.0 TD accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds !
This is a better than VW Golf GTI with DSG which will need 6.9 second with DSG and 7.2 sec with manual transmission.

I agree with the comment that the car of this size and weight will struggle with the 2.0 engines (turbo petrol or diesel).
The VW should seriously consider the new 2.7 Turbo Diesel engine which will be available in new the Audi A4 2008 model. The V6 3.0 litre will make the BMW X3 to run for their money.
Cheers,
Anthony

What the hell have they done to the concept??? The Tiguan has gone from a beautiful innovative sporty functional design gem to a boring super-sized golf. I have been waiting 12 months to order one but I can forget that now. VW have completely bottled it on what could have been a mega-successful market leading revelation. SAD.

Accordingly to VW, we will get well known 2.0 Turbo Petrol engine from Golf GTi and 2.0 Turbo Diesel from VW Jetta/Audi A4 ( 103 KW, 320 Nm).
Later next year the latest 2.0 Turbo Diesel engine, 125 KW , 350 Nm , will be available. It will compete with the BMW X3 2.0 Turbo Diesel.
There is no full specification yet as car has not been officialy released.
The official promotion is on the 2008 Frankfurt Motor Show , starting next week.
I don’t know what is the weight of the vehicle but seems close to Honda CRV or Toyota Kluger. I guess it is about 1700 kg.How it will perform with those engines we have to wait until car is released here in Australia early next year.

Jerremy,
The Oettinger can tune the 125 KW / 350 Nm @ 200 rpm engine to 143 KW/420 Nm @ 2500 rpm.
It will be better and afster than BMW X3 3.0 sd.

Thank you for your prompt response.
As a VW customer for many years and current owner of Golf GTI I am expecting to see you as world car leader in the future.
Only what we can hope here in Australia is to see the WOLKSWAGEN 2.0 Twin Turbo Diesel soon.
The BMW 123d ,world’s most powerful production four-cylinder diesel engine , Variable Twin Turbo Diesel (2008 model ) soon to be released in Australia will get a 150 KW/204 BHP and Peak torque is 400Nm from 2,000rpm, while the engine revs to in excess of 4,400rpm where peak power is attained. This performance equates to a zero to 62 mph(100 km) time of 7.0 seconds and a top speed of 148mph(240 km/h) – previously unheard of figures in such small capacity production diesels.
By comparison the output of the four-cylinder BMW 123d betters that of established six-cylinder diesel engines from both Audi and Mercedes.
It also has outstanding fuel consumption levels, 5.2 litres of diesel for 100 kilometres in the EU test cycle.
So VW/Audi watch out !
Cheers,
J. Frank

This model (grey) does not look muscular as good as the one (orange color with special Contiental oven pressed tyres) on the motor show. Even the interior finish is not exactly the same as orange one which had leather steering and tiger print leather seats.
Will purchase unless the whole orange one which was on the show to be produced!! Because this grey model just look like general conventional SUV without characters.

Sorry to sound like a wet blanket but since when was a zero to 100k time of 10 seconds all that slow. The 125 kw diesel in the Tiguan would, like most modern diesels be a pleasure to drive with the torque it boasts.
I’ll hopefully be near the top of the list for one of these beauties.

I agree with brain!
The 125kw Diesel could well be tuned to around 140kw or more with gentle massaging of the turbo and exhaust.
The torque for this engine is plenty.
Mind you too the X3 BMW is a little dearer!!

I: Does anyone have an opinion about choosing the white exterior and the beige sandstone leather interior!? In case, why not? Which color combintation suits the tiguan better?
II: Does the light colored leather, such as the sandstone leather easily get scratch marks or mis-colored by long usage?

Possible Buyer White [exterior] & Beige [interior] isn’t that bad when you have a look at some of the colour combinations Honda have with the Accord Euro such as
Fire Truck Red/Beige and Black/Brown
As for the Tiguan - I’ve seen quite a few here in Adelaide in a shimery metallic blue colour similar to Impulse [which Holden had on the VZs] with a graphite grey leather interior which doesn’t look bad
