2015 Holden Insignia VXR debuts next-gen MyLink infotainment system, other brand firsts

The 2015 Holden Insignia VXR has been launched in Australia and debuts the next generation of Holden's MyLink infotainment system, along with several other Holden-first safety features.

Built in Germany, the Holden Insignia VXR is a rebranded version of the Opel Insignia OPC, which received a facelift in 2013 and returns to Australia wearing a Holden badge.

Holden's new MyLink infotainment system features an 8.0-inch colour touchscreen with Bluetooth audio streaming, voice control (including text to speech), seven speakers and DAB+ digital radio as standard.

The new MyLink infotainment system uses a cleaner layout and advanced voice recognition to help the driver do more without taking their eyes off the road. Text to speech even allows the vehicle to read out text messages to minimise distraction while driving.

In addition to MyLink, the Holden Insignia VXR debuts automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control.

  • AEB works by monitoring the road in front of the vehicle and both alerting the driver and priming the brake lines to reduce stopping time.
  • Lane departure warning alerts the driver when the vehicle either unintentionally leaves its lane or when a vehicle is approaching from a distance at a faster rate of speed in the adjacent lane.
  • Adaptive cruise control uses a radar built into the front of the vehicle to adaptively slow and accelerate the vehicle when it reduces or increases distance between the car in front.

Despite the vehicle being built in Germany, the Holden Insignia is powered by an Australian built 2.8-litre turbocharged petrol V6 engine. Producing 239kW of power and 435Nm of torque, it is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and has curiously never been used in an Australian built vehicle.

The all-wheel-drive 2015 Holden Insignia VXR launches in Australia this week. CarAdvice will bring you a review from the local vehicle's international launch in New Zealand. In the interim, find out more about pricing and specifications for the Holden Insignia VXR here.
