Renault Sandero RS 2.0 revealed

The Renault Sandero RS 2.0 made its debut today at the 2015 Buenos Aires motor show.

Renault says that the first ever RS model to be built outside of Europe is powered by a 108kW engine. It's highly likely that this 2.0-litre engine is very closely related to the 105kW/198Nm unit employed in Latin American Dusters and other Renault models.

At present, South American Sanderos are powered by a 1.6-litre engine with 78kW of power and 145Nm of torque.

The 2.0-litre motor is hooked up to a six-speed manual transmission, as well as stability control with "sports tuning", and revised settings for the suspension and steering. Stopping power is now provided by disc brakes at each corner.

Visually, the RS 2.0 is distinguished by a revised front end featuring a more aggressive front bumper that incorporates a mesh-style grille and lower air intake, and LED driving lights.

There's also a sharper set of side skirts, a faux rear diffuser, tail-lights with a grey backing, and chromed twin-tip tail-pipes. The Sandero RS rides on 17-inch black alloy wheels fitted with 205/45 Continental EcoSportContact 3 tyres.

Other changes include metal pedals, red stitching and highlights for the interior, a leather steering wheel, touchscreen infotainment system, climate control air conditioning, and a speed limiter and cruise control system.

While Renault was ambiguous about whether the Duster Oroch ute, which was also unveiled overnight, would be sold outside of Latin America or with Dacia badges, the company has been equivocal about the prospects for the Sandero RS 2.0.

According to the French car maker, the Renault Sport fettled city hatch is an "exclusively for Latin America" affair. The Sandero RS will be launched in early 2016 in Argentina.
