Renault Duster Oroch ute unveiled – UPDATE

The production version of the Renault Duster Oroch ute has been unveiled overnight at the 2015 Buenos Aires motor show.

Unlike the concept car, which debuted at the Sao Paolo motor show in October last year, the production ute features smaller wing mirrors, framed door windows and no plastic cladding for the fenders.

Based on the Renault/Dacia Duster crossover, the Oroch features a dual cab body and seating for five passengers. The company has yet to provide a payload rating for the Oroch's tray.

Designed by the company's Latin America-based design studio, the new Oroch is said to be positioned squarely between the pickups based on B-segment hatches, such as the Uno-derived Fiat Strada, and the much larger body-on-frame utes, like the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger.

The Oroch will use the same 1.6- and 2.0-litre engines employed by the Duster SUV in Latin America. No performance or fuel economy figures have been provided by Renault in relation to the Oroch, but in the Duster the 1.6-litre produces 81kW/148Nm and 2.0-litre 105kW/198Nm.

On the inside, top-spec Duster Orochs will come equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity and an auxiliary jack.

Other available features include a speed limiter and cruise control, roof rails, air conditioning, parking sensors, traction control, and electric windows. The high-grade model pictured here rides on 18-inch alloy wheels fitted with 235/60 Continental tyres.

According to Renault, the Duster Oroch has been developed "for all the world markets", hinting that it could go on sale outside of Latin America, potentially in countries where the Duster is sold as a Dacia.

The new Renault Duster Oroch ute will be launched in Latin America during the second half of 2015.

Earlier this year Justin Hocevar, managing director of Renault Australia, told Car Advice that Dacia could be launched in Australia, off the back of the next-generation Duster, as early as 2017. It's not a given, though.
