Great choice Terry, we have this model in mettalic dark grey and find the Focus very good, the fuel economy is great saving the hip pocket heaps, all you toymota fans think you have the best fuel economy cars, well think again if you had the balls and drive a ford instead of granny wheels your thoughts may change...GO FORD

Tony, fair comments, but I someone said something to me the other day in regards to the X-Trail, might have read it here, not sure. They aren't bringing in the Turbo Diesel model because their competitors aren't.

This is similar to how my mate's girlfriend bought a new Corolla last year (maybe beginning of this year) and it didn't even come with ABS.

I was a little shocked, as I had just started to look for a new car of my own (still looking) and everything I looked at had ABS as standard. Then I got to the bottom end of my price range because nothing interested me that much at the top of my budget and I wanted to compare... sometimes you find the jewel amongst the thorns (so to speak).

I guess Toyota didn't include ABS, because their competitors at the time didn't.

If manufacturers have this sort of attitude, wouldn't you think they'd all just take a dive? No, because people still buy the cars.... why? Cars are more of a necessity then a want. When you want a motorcycle, you're picky about it, with cars, it seems people just tend to purchase based on price, then factor in the other bits.

I assume Ford has been doing the same thing to their cars, now that their competition has all the bells and whistles, they have to step up to the plate and then call on their finance dept. to adjust the RRP to stay competitive within the car's market.

I guess it's all business at the end of the day, if regulations didn't come into play, I don't think cars would even have EFI these days. Or retractable seatbelts, airbags, collapsible control pedals, safety cells, side intrusion beams, etc etc.

I'll drive the new Focus, naturally the car will be better then the model is supersedes. But I hope they have fixed the seat. Because that's going to be the determining factor for me.

Cheers

Don't know what those Ford people are thinking. They should have put those safety features as a option months ago. The timing of cosmetic update is also poor. The should have done it in beginning of year to increase sales and kill off its main competitors, the aging Mazda 3 & Corrolla. Not after the revamped of Mazda 3 & new launch Corrolla have already released, just to look good? Especially, just a month or two before they release a totally new medium size Mondeo? Who is going to buy Focus if they know Mondeo is coming within a month or two ?

...The old model is on runout mode, it was normally priced at $20990 +on-road costs. The new model will also be available with curtain SRS airbags and DSC, plus other stuff I'm guessing.

Steve you are exactly the type of customer Ford are now targeting. The one who wants the bells and whistles rather than just price focused

Oh yeah. Having driven the Focus, even though I didn't like the seat. It craps on the Corolla now, waiting to see what the new model will be like.

Hopefully they fix it so you sit in the seat not on it like a ball. And we get the Turbo Diesel. I'm disappointed the Nissan X-trail isn't coming out in Turbo Diesel because Nissan have said the competitors don't offer one, why should they.... hardly innovative, but no one ever called them that.

I'm holding out to see what new cars the manufacturers bring out for next year, since a lot of them appear to be bringing out new generation/designs to their cars. I'd rather a new model then a deal on an old one with less safety and features.... I like my bells and whistles, but I can only afford the bells.

Focus CL from $19990 with std ABS and EBD and the option of ESP, side and curtain SRS airbags. Not bad, considering the Focus is probably better to drive then the Corolla and undercuts it in price.
