Renault pick-up teased ahead of international debut

The first-ever Renault pick-up has been teased ahead of its international debut at the Buenos Aires motor show on June 18.

While this isn't expected to be the much-anticipated Renault version of the Nissan Navara, the new ute could give some hints as to what to expect in terms of the larger pick-up truck's styling. This vehicle is instead expected to be the production version of the Duster ute.

The new vehicle - which is referred to as the U79 on the French brand's international press site - appears likely to borrow many cues from the existing Renault Duster Oroch concept vehicle.

No other details have been revealed, but we look forward to seeing what the vehicle looks like when the covers come off later this month. That said, it is highly likely this a vehicle specifically tailored to meet the needs of developing markets, and as such it is unlikely to be sold in Australia.

At a global level Renault's commercial vehicle offering is critical to the brand. In Europe the company has been the highest seller of vans for the past 15 years. Its range includes the Kangoo, Trafic and Master models.

The company's Australian arm has stated that light commercial vehicle sales account for 34 per cent of its business, and claims those vehicles are a "crucial part of our range and our success".
