Mercedes-Benz “SLC” spy photos

The facelifted Mercedes-Benz SLK has been spotted again, this time in what looks like AMG Sport trim.

In line with the company's policy to rename its sport and SUV models based on their relationship to the brand's core lineup, the updated SLK will likely wear newly minted SLC badges.

Despite the name change, the SLC will sport only a light visual refresh over the final-ever SLK-branded models.

In an earlier round of spy photos, we saw a prototype equipped with new headlights, complete with hockey stick-style LED driving lights, and revised graphics for the tail-lights.

This car, though, uses the current car's head- and tail-light combo, suggesting that the new car's lighting array will retain the previous units' shape, if not their design and internals. The disguise that's applied to this prototype's front and rear fascias doesn't quite hide the update car's smoother styling.

This car's quad-tip exhaust suggests that it could be an AMG Sport variant of the revised range. Possibly badged as the SLC450 AMG Sport, the new model will bridge the gap between the SLC350 and SLC55 AMG.

If an SLC450 does pop up as a part of the revised range, expect it to use the 270kW 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 found under the bonnet of the C450 AMG Sport.

The SLK range received a raft of new engine and transmission options in early April. It's been confirmed that these revisions will appear in Australian showrooms in September.

It's not known when the facelifted SLC range (nee SLK) will be unveiled, but a global debut later this year seems likely.
