Subaru looking at six new names for its new seven-seat SUV – report

A potential all-new seven-seat SUV from Subaru is on the cards, and the brand is asking its fans what name the company should choose if it builds such a vehicle.

Overseas reports indicate a customer survey is questioning the brand's supporters over what their preferences would be, and there are six names under consideration for the new car, which will be a replacement for the Tribeca model that ceased production in January 2014.

An apparent screenshot of the survey on US site Jalopnik asks about preferred names in light of "the possibility of a 7 passenger vehicle being offered in the future" indicates the potential model names are: Centauri, Cypress, Ascent, Meridian, Sojourn and Columbia.

There's no confirmation of the actual new model as yet, though, and when CarAdvice asked the question about the potential for a larger SUV in Australia, the brand's local arm indicated any such car may not be included as part of the range.
