2016 Seat SUV spy photos

The upcoming Seat SUV has been spied by our photography team during on-the-road development testing in Europe.

Wearing heavy camouflage all over and using centrally mounted temporary headlights, it's hard to make many details about Seat's first ever crossover.

Peering out of slits at the rear, though, we can part of the tail-lights and their angular graphics. The wheel arches have a squared off look to them, and aren't too dissimilar to ones seen on the 20V20 concept, which made its debut at the Geneva motor show earlier this year.

The 20V20 is said to provide clues about the looks of the production SUV.

It's known yet what Seat's SUV will be named, but under the skin it's been confirmed that it will use components from the Volkswagen Group's MQB modular architecture for front-engine, front- and all-wheel drive cars.

The Seat crossover will share a lot in common with an upcoming Skoda SUV, which will sit above the Yeti. Both the Skoda and Seat soft-roaders will be built at a Skoda plant in the Czech Republic.

Skoda's large crossover will be revealed before the end of 2015, while Seat's SUV is due to make its global debut in 2016.

At last year's Paris motor show, Jurgen Stackmann, CEO of Seat, told Car Advice that the brand may be relaunched in Australia.

“Australia is clearly in our map. But we have to take it step by step. We are investigating and analysing opportunities in China, and once we’re in the region obviously we’ll look into Australia as well," Stackmann said. "And with the SUV coming soon in 2016, that would be an appropriate time to enter the market."
