2015 Toyota Aurion pricing and specifications

The 2015 Toyota Aurion is now on sale in Australia with subtly revised styling, a tighter three-variant range, and updated pricing and specifications.

In complete contrast to the massive exterior given to its sister car, the 2015 Toyota Camry, the updated Aurion gets only very minor design tweaks – less significant even than the updates received by the car in overseas markets such as Russia and Asia.

The new-look, 2015 Toyota Aurion line-up has been reduced to just three variants: AT-X, Sportivo and Presara – with the mid-spec Prodigy and the high-end sporty ZR6 variants dropped from the range.

Also unlike the 2015 Camry, which got price cuts of up to $5000, Aurion prices have either remained the same or increased slightly.

The Aurion AT-X is still $36,490 before on-road costs, which means it’s $10,000 more expensive than the entry-level Camry Altise.

It’s better equipped than before, however, gaining front and rear parking sensors, an enhanced reverse-view camera with back-guide monitor, keyless entry with push-button start, the ToyotaLink infotainment system, Optitron steering wheel controls, 4.2-inch instrument cluster display, and an alloy spare wheel.

The Aurion Sportivo is $40,990, matching the price of the old SX6 variant. It gains larger 18-inch alloys (up from 17s), an electric rear sunshade, and ToyotaLink. It also gets a more subtle sports body kit than the previous model.

The Sportivo is also distinguished from the rest of the Aurion range by its low-profile tyres, firmer sports suspension and unique steering set-up. Toyota says the Sportivo was developed and tested in Australia to meet the demands of local drivers and road conditions.

The flagship Presara now costs $50,440, making it $450 more than before, though Toyota explains the price rise accounts for the standard inclusion of metallic paint, which is a $450 option on the other two variants.

Additional standard equipment includes LED headlights (in exchange for HID lamps), rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure alert, and ToyotaLink.

The updated Aurion carries over the old car’s 200kW/336Nm 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine and six-speed automatic transmission. Its combined cycle fuel consumption is also unchanged at 9.3 litres per 100 kilometres.

Toyota says a new pre-load differential improves driveability, claiming to provide enhanced steering feel, greater ease of control under acceleration and deceleration, smoother take-off, improved low-speed manoeuvrability, increased high-speed stability, and greater stability on dirt and rough roads.
