Maserati Levante design revealed via patent drawings

Drawings, claimed to be from a patent filing, for the Maserati Levante have been leaked and published online.

The patent drawings seen here were obtained by AutoGuide. The American website claims that these design drawings were submitted to the Australian patent office on April 8 and were recently granted registered status.

If these claimed patent drawings prove to be accurate, Maserati's first-ever crossover will have a slightly more conventional design than the 2011 Kubang concept car.

Whereas the Kubang had a kinked side window line and a clamshell-style rear hatch, the Levante will seemingly feature a more regular tailgate design and a gently curved side window graphic.

At the front, the patent drawings reveal that the Levante will have slimline headlights and high-mounted fog lights flanking a traditional Maserati grille.

Despite all of these changes, the Levante keeps the Kubang's overall profile and relatively sporty stance.

A report earlier this month indicated that the Levante will make its global debut at the 2016 Detroit auto show, which takes place in the middle of January. Production will then begin in Italy in March.

Sources who spoke to Autovisie also indicated that the Levante will be available with a Ferrari-built V6 in 260kW and 335kW trims, as well as a V8 with around 430kW of power. There will also be a diesel option and, down the track, a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.
