Looks good to me, maybe not as stylish as the Tiguan, but more space inside with that more upright rear end, and better use of internal space. Both Yeti and German cousin are far better looking than the bland Asian offerings. I'd certainly consider purchasing the Yeti when it arrives- but only if they offer a auto diesel 4WD, why on earth are they offering only 4wd manual transmissions? The Tiguan comes with auto (not DSG, which apparently can't at this stage be linked to the Haldex system). I'm not sure that I could be sold on DSG anyway- I seriously doubt they have the lifespan of a torque converter auto box and cost horrific amounts of money to replace (some have apparently failed after the warranty runs out). It would be nice to save fuel with the DSG but a normal auto apparently works better around town anyway. The interiors are much more stylish on Skodas than the Japanese, and especially Korean offerings, the beige colour is a nice alternative for the long Australian summers (doesn't get nearly as hot inside). Black is nearly ubiquitous these days and is utterly horrible.

It looks nice. Sounds like an interesting car even if it's small. Yeti definitely looks good than any other Skoda I've seen so far.

Pete,
Lol yes it was an awesome trip! Even better than the Yeti was the Veyron Grand Sport just sitting there :D I was tempted to steal it...no course not! Wow the south coast, I must take a trip down there - even two Superbs. At first I thought the front wasn't nice, but at my dealer the other day I had a drive and sat and looked at the front for a few minutes - I really like it now. At dusk, it looks fantastic!

Thomas79
Lol thank you. I was actually thinking about that today, and I reckon it will. The Superb offers a large-car package, which is part of Aussie culture, bit with much less consumption. Also, Wheels this month (goes onsale tomorrow, I subscribe) claims the V6's ride is too form but that is FAR from the truth. My RS's ride is much more firm and they were happy with it.

I was thinking about competitors too. Q5 won't because it's waaaay too exxy, MiTo won't because it's value is non-existant, Cerato probably won't be nominated it's too patchy, Mazda3 won't because it's NVH levels are too high (and this was why the old one lost too), Prius won't because it's value also doesn't exist and the Maxima won't win because dynamics don't exist with it.

I reckon it'll be a close fight between the new Golf, the Superb and the new Fiesta. All pretty good cars really.

So true Jake02,

I reckon SKODA has a good shot at winning a few COTY2009 will their Superb this year.

Aussiecars, if you read some of the European reviews, you will see SKODA frequently beats it's own parent VWs in terms of build Quality!! After all, all those J.D power quality surveys can't be wrong.

Jake02 - you lucky bastard ... the VW factory and theme park. What I'd give! Still, I prefer the look of the VW product and build quality is on par. Maybe if Skoda buit a Transporter!

As for seeing Skodas - must all be sold in the Sth Coast, NSW - I see them pretty much every day, most recently on a trip to Ulladulla spoted 2 separate Superbs (bloody horrible nose).

FO^^^^^^^
Is Melbourne your turf is it? I saw four in the very city centre (Flinders St) and I reckon that would be more than Sydney. That's how I call it.

Renault will go (if, not when) way before Skoda because their sales haven't picked up in the 6 years they've been here - HINT: Being more models in!).
Skoda sales are increasing - that's why they're not giving up yet (and they won't - VW Aus has worked too hard to get them here). Yep bring SEAT back and I GUARANTEE that the bad memories from the late 90's will come straight back. That's why SEAT will not work, no matter how good-looking they are (but in designing them mustve taken the whole budget - the rest of the car aren't apparently upto standard - source: a number of Euro mags).
