Video: Range Rover Sport Supercharged 0-160-0
July 20, 2009 by George Skentzos
Land Rover has released a simple video showcasing the performance of its new flagship Range Rover Sport Supercharged against its predecessor in a simple test from zero to 160km/h and then back to zero.
From the film is is quite obvious that Land Rover has made some substantial improvements with the new model which is powered by an uprated supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine, easily trumping the previous supercharged 4.2-litre V8 powerplant.

WOW That is a massive difference…Id still rather a Vogue tho…
I’d say that Alex would have one of these in his garage as he appears to have nearly every modern European performance car there is be it a Sedan a Wagon a Coupe or an SUV.. am I right?
No Wheelnut, you are not right. I used to have one, but it was a bit naff and tasteless so I got rid of it. I’ve written before, I have a lot of cars and a massive garage in Oxfordshire to keep them all in and I’m not going to apologise for it. If people on this website can write about owning Golfs or Falcons, why can’t I write about what I have just because the list is long?
On the matter of the actual car, wow! Can’t wait to drive one.
Ah, Alex you champ, you tell Wheelnut. Hey I’m going down to the bowls club later on: can I borrow your S500? I need something to impress the chaps.
No guys, it’s Jeeves get the Roller, take me to the club and DONT spare the horses!!!!
I know you [claim to] have a number of different cars Alex which is why I made the comment. I thought that you would have one if not that would be thinking of upgrading to the new one.. you are afterall; the Resident Range Rover expert.
Wonder how the Supercharged Sport would go against the X6-M?
Oooooooh, things getting catty between nutjob and snobby alex, whats going on guys, had a tiff have we ?
Is this the same engine out of the XF-R and XK-R?
If it is, it should stay in those cars and a diesel version made for Land Rover for off roading, as i still don’t see the point of these vehicles.
aah range rover, simply the best luxury 4wd in the world,no doubt about it.
Alex you are my hero. You probably tell girls that you have a 15 inch monster downstairs too.
Gut feeling, the Fornasari [Google it!!] a STUNNING SUV would have this RR licked and destroy and spank every other SUV on the market you want to put up next to it, [280kmh+ anybody] END-OF-STORY!
It’s a SUV, but has SuperCar like performance, handling, & luxo etc etc.
NOT seen on every street corner either!

What kind of a whack test is this?
We can’t see who is better at braking, nor is there a point where we can measure when each car reaches 160kph. And who chose 160 as a comparison speed? ‘Marketers’ calculated this as a hard speed for the old model to reach quickly! That’s who.
This is a nonsense video, engineered by a marketing team and is of no real comparitive value. Car Advice should have realised this and not promotoed it as news!
Nacayoda..
160km/h is 100mph… seems a fair comparison speed to me..
Actually Modest, in real life I am exactly that, modest. I don’t talk about myself at all in fact. I just figure that when I’m commenting here where nobody can put a face to me, why the hell not?
That video looks strangely sinister for some reason. Maybe it’s the no voice-over or music. You could imagine it being on some weird late-night BBC drama.
The Sport is v. nice but a bit of a footballer’s car. Personally I’d have a Disco or Range Rover.
That would scare some people if they dared take it off road….. or down at the bowls club, the glasses would rattle as they drove off… ;)
nacayoda –
The 0-100-0 (MPH) test is a very standard test, usually done alongside 0-60 and quarter mile. There are other methods of measurement, converting them helps out sometimes.
And I’m sure marketers did this test to show that the new Range is a bit faster. I have an 08 SS and I’m not angry at this…if it’s faster it’s faster. Always going to be a better model coming out.
