BMW M6 Competition Package updated with more power

The BMW M6 Competition Package has been updated and gives BMW's largest performance car an extra shot of power.

Headlining the new Competition Package for the M6 is a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that's been tuned to develop 441kW of power and 700Nm of torque. This is the same engine that powered last year's limited edition 30 Jahre (30th Anniversary) M6.

With 441kW available, the new Competition Package outpoints the previous version, which had a maximum output of 423kW. The standard M6, meanwhile, has an engine that's rated at 412kW/680Nm.

According to BMW, the 441kW V8 is powerful enough to hurl the M6 coupe and Gran Coupe from 0-100km/h n 3.9 seconds; the convertible version requires an extra 0.1 seconds. That's around 0.2 seconds quicker than the previous Competition Package.

Top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h, although if you pony up for the optional M Driver's Package, the car will be derestricted and can be run all the way up to 305km/h.

A set of exclusive 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels and black chrome quad-tailpipes help visually distinguish the Competition Package from lesser M6s.

The updated Competition Package will become available for the M6 coupe, Gran Coupe and convertible from July 2015. We'll update this article when we receive word about the package's availability in Australia.
