Citroen DS3 gains new six-speed automatic transmission

The recently updated 2015 Citroen DS3 is now available with a new six-speed automatic transmission.

The new Citroen EAT6 automatic gearbox is only available with the brand's PureTech110 three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 81kW of power and 205Nm of torque.

The DS3 hatchback is said to use 4.7 litres per 100 kilometres on the European cycle, while the DS3 Cabrio model is good for 4.9L/100km. Unsurprisingly, the six-speeder is said to lower fuel consumption over the existing VTi120 1.6-litre four-cylinder that was available with a four-speed automatic (it claimed 6.7L/100km).

The French brand claims the new automatic gearbox offers smoother, quicker shifts that improve the way the car drives and its acceleration and throttle response.

At the Australian launch of the 2015 Citroen DS3, the brand announced it had dropped the existing four-speed auto in favour of a manual only, turbocharged four-cylinder line-up, though said it hoped to introduce a six-speed auto transmission by the beginning of 2016.
