Nissan GT-R: Massive Follow-Up

June 29, 2007 by George Skentzos

A few days ago we reported on the Nissan GT-R making an appearance at the Goodwood festival of speed, well thanks to at least two members of the UK GTR Owner’s Club we can now present you with plenty more info and best of all, some nice close-ups.

Just listen to it purr!

Here are some of the more interesting details:

  • Redline at 8000rpm
  • Fitted with either six or seven speed paddle shift gearbox.
  • Introductory price £55k.

  • Official unveiling at the Tokyo Motor Show, Oct 26 – Nov 11.
  • The iconic Bayside Blue trademark colour of the GT-R’s may no longer be used.
  • The man behind the wheel was a French VP of Nissan who commented that Porsche should be worried.
  • Clutch arrangement meant it had trouble staying stationary whilst in gear.
  • The concealed front may not be the final design.
  • Three buttons on dash were labeled “T”, “S”, and “V”
  • Bose sound system
  • Speedo reached 340km/h
  • Steering wheel has other auxiliary controls such as stereo
  • Flush door handles similar to the Aston Martin’s.
  • Quad exhaust system mirrors the trademark rear round lights
  • Brembo 6 pot calipers

Let me stress that all credit goes to the UK Skyline and GT-R Owner’s Club

Porsche should be worried by Nissan????? Hahaha

I’m sure their heart will palpitate – not.

  2. tony says:

The GT-R will literally hammer a Carrera S into the ground at $50K less. Even better on a track – NO contest. Mark my words

  3. alborz says:

    i agree!
    i think for once,
the japs finally have a 911 killer
I think the 911 will always be the king in the purist heart, but in reality, the richer 911 owners will opt out for the Aston Martin DB9 and the aspiring 911 owners will go for the GT-R

  4. Bavarian Missile / says:

Alborz what was it you said previously???

“I don’t believe that Nissan can catch up to Porsche with the new GT-R, Porsche have a 20 year lead on the Japanese and although the gap is closing, a GT-3 Turbo .vs. a Evo spec GT-R? I would love to be there on the race track to find out.

In the mean time, ill stick to my guns, Porsche are not going to lose what they have mastered in the last four decades!

If they do, I’ll eat my hat .

Any garnish with that HAT ??? HAHAHAHA

  5. alborz says:

haha, ur keeping tabs on me lisa!
the more i read about this thing, the more i just cannot wait to drive it, it will be a 911 equivalent at the very least.

  6. OttoAu says:

Yes it will beat a Porsche on a track

Yes it will be better built

Yes it will be more *normal* for everyday use

Yes it will cost less to buy

Yes it will be cheaper to run/maintain

Yes it will be easy & cheaper to turn into a monster

BIG fat NO, it does NOT have the pedigree or badge required for most punters.A Porsche is a Porsche.Period

Just like audi will NEVER be seen as a threat to Benz/BMW/Lexus, a Nissan aint a Porsche

    I still rather……the GT-R

    O/A

  7. OttoAu says:

    Lost in transit?

“The test driver was a French VP of Nissan and he thinks it will be a smash hit
Test driver commentted that Porsche have a lot to be worried about (sure, haha -cem)”

Bit different to what you posted???

    O/A

  8. George says:

I just integrated the two points to get the key facts. No one cares if the a VP of Nissan thinks its going to be a “smash hit”, they do however find it interesting if he believes it will rival Porsche.

  9. ya mum says:

fuk u guys are loosers for actually responding yet u know jakshit bout cars

  10. Deena says:

omged thats a fuken sxci car it sounds sooo hott…

  11. Azza says:

PAH! The the thought that Nissan is actually trying to rival Porsche is a joke! This is almost as bad as the whole Holden vs. BMW epidemic. Regardless of how many blowdriers are held within the ugliness of what is the Nissan Skyline GT-R, it will never rival Porsche.

Nissan, word of advice, stick with going up against Toyota. They’re releasing their new Supra next year, and that is what the Skyline has always gone up against (and lost against i might add).
The Skyline has only ever been good for the try hards who think they are as good as all the professional drivers around the world, and just because this one will cost a nice $200,000+, doesn’t change that fact.

  12. Ed says:

    @ azza

what fact?? you look stupid with that comment really. bet you’ve never driven a GT-R or probably can’t afford one, yet you are talking like you know the shit..

    shame…

  13. wgr78 says:

    Hey Guyz,
The GT-R was one of the first to beat Ferarri was it NOT? If thats the case….Porsche would be a cake walk! As for the Supra versus Skyline thing, Toyota has the more powerful engine that could tow the Queen Mary out the ocean but Skyline has always been a hard reving engine and the better perfomer on the race track, its a cheaper and BETTER car I think. I use to work with a japanesse mechanic and was told Supras a little heavier, slightly more powerful motor and built a little stronger. The Skyline (RB20,25 & 26) engines were built by aircraft engineers and the GT-R was not nicknamed “GODZILLA” for nothing! Six in one half dozen in the other but power to weight and all round car, I would have tip the Skyline!!!
