Infiniti Concept Vision Gran Turmiso makes transition from video game to real life

A real life version of the Infiniti Concept Vision Gran Turismo made its in-the-flesh debut in Shanghai last week at the Shanghai Himalayas Art Museum.

The virtual car made its debut in December last year, as part of an on-going series of drivable in-game concepts from practically every major automotive brand for Gran Turismo 6 on PlayStation 3.

Infiniti says that its Concept Vision Gran Turismo was the result of an internal design competition "to design a pure Infiniti GT car". The company's design team in Beijing won and its car ended up as a free download for the popular racing game.

According to the luxury marque, the winning design is "part beauty, part beast, its shape is powerful, sensual and audacious, [and articulated] the team's ambitious racing language for Infiniti".

In addition to adhering to the brand's design language, the concept also incorporated some Chinese influences. These include "fluid movement and the delicate gradation of the body are inspired by traditional Chinese calligraphy and landscape paintings, while the character lines uninhibitedly flowing through the car reflect the dynamism of China".

The virtual version of the car is said to feature a hybrid drivetrain consisting of an electric motor and a 4.5-litre V8 mounted in a front mid-ship position, with weight balance claimed to be 45:55 front-to-rear.
