Mercedes-Benz C-Class:: 800 sedans recalled for fuel pump mounting fault

More than 800 award winning Mercedes-Benz C-Class models have been recalled for a fuel pump fault that could result in vehicles stalling.

Affecting 873 W205 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedans built between December 2013 and October 2014, the official recall notice on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) product safety recalls website says the recall relates to the vehicles' in-tank fuel pump, which "may detach from its mounting".

"Failure of the fuel pump mounting may cause the vehicle to suddenly stall and present an accident risk to the vehicle occupants and other road users," the notice says.

Mercedes-Benz Australia says it has communicated to all owners of affected vehicles, with fixes being performed at no cost to owners.

There have been no reported incidents of the recalled component failing, and the local arm of the German car maker states the fix is just a precautionary measure.

Earlier this month, the all-new C-Class – so far accruing 2583 sales in Australia in 2015 – won the 2015 World Car of the Year award, pipping the likes of the Ford Mustang and European Volkswagen Passat.
