A decision on whether the Subaru Levorg will make it into Australian showrooms remains up in the air, even though the company had hoped to announce its call either way before the end of last month.

Speaking to CarAdvice today, Subaru Australia national corporate affairs manager David Rowley said, “[There’s] still no definite decision”.

“We’re definitely interested in the car and continue talking to the factory about the business case.”

Late last year, Subaru Australia managing director Nick Senior confirmed the local division was “looking at Levorg”, saying, “…a decision will be made in quarter one next year [2015] on whether Levorg is going to come here or not”.

A model generating excitement among Subaru fans and executives alike, Senior has previously said, “We would love to have it, it was built for Australia”.

Revealed at the 2013 Tokyo motor show and launched in Japan in early 2014, the Levorg is an Impreza-based station wagon available with either a 125kW/250Nm turbocharged 1.6-litre ‘boxer’ four-cylinder or a WRX-sourced turbocharged 2.0-litre with 221kW and 400Nm.

With no manual gearbox available, should the model make it to Oz, performance wagon enthusiasts will have to be content with the exclusively offered continuously variable transmission (CVT).
