Mercedes-Benz ends production of 6×6 G-Wagen

Mercedes-Benz has called it quits on one of the wildest road-going machines ever made - the G63 AMG 6x6 - with production ending this week.

Roughly 100 of the monstrous 5.7m long, 4-tonne, Frankenstein utes were built - but sadly none made it to Australia.

With a 405kW/760Nm twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 powering all six wheels, the 6x6 had a base price of nearly $550,000 (€379,000) and sold out the limited build run in about 12 months.

While the Australian Army uses a six-wheel drive Mercedes G-Wagen in its fleet, the chassis (developed specifically for the Australian Army by Mercedes-Benz) is different to the AMG version and will continue to be produced.

If you are left wanting a little more of the gargantuan road beast, a 6x6 co-stars with Michael Douglas in the upcoming thriller, Beyond the Reach.
