HSV vs FPV: Crunching Numbers

June 26, 2007 by George Skentzos

According to a recent issue of Australian Muscle Car magazine, it seems FPV’s dominance was short lived. Monthly sales statistics reveal booming sales figures for HSV whilst FPV struggles to break the 200 mark.

Obviously these figures must be taken with a grain of salt considering the the E-Series HSV having made its debut, and the Orion FPV range just around the corner. However they are interesting never the less.

Sale of hsv show, that the mid life crisis is alive and well

    :)

    haha

I will wait for this comment to pop up ………

    Ford Suck

  3. Bavarian Missile says:

Last week SUNCORP did their latest stats on insurance claims . Who makes the most claims on vehicles in Australia, no supprise of course the Upper end market does.So is this why HSV had the most claims for single car stacks in Australia ,more of them on the road than others,MMMM ?

Over all Alfa owners were the worst.

  4. smokin'R32 says:

im assuming things will pick up for fpv when the orion is launched – the ba/bf look is getting a bit long in the tooth, but this is still an arse kicking sales wise

  5. acfsambo says:

The reason forr these figures is trhat people didnt buy the HSV cars before the release of the VE because they wanted the VE, causing FPV’s sales to rise in comparison and now that the new falcon is just around the corner, people are holding off to get the new FPV cars and therefore HSV looks like its getting more sales.

  6. Reckless1 says:

“Obviously these figures must be taken with a grain of salt”

Spoken by a Ford fan who will not accept that the FPV product is not preferred by the majority.

Anyone who mentions the Orion in the same breath as HSV and FPV is a lost soul.

  7. George says:

Actually Reckless1, that was written by a Holden fan with the insight to understand that a brand new model is going to perform better than a model which is shortly going to be superseded, hence to be taken with a grain of salt until the manufacturers are back on level playing fields with their latest models.

Considering the new FPV range will be derived from the Orion – the only currently confirmed name we can place on the brand, it would make sense to utter them in the same breath.

  8. adam says:

George…Bravo! It’s so obvious when some can post a logical response…

    Reckless1…wake up.

  9. Andrew. M says:

hey missile you might be onto something!!
hsv drivers make more claims which means they have to buy it again when they write it off.

  10. Bavarian Missile says:

Its that or the mining boom. I remember Skaffe opening his dumb trap and commenting on that HSV sell more cars to mining towns than FPV !!!…….Right….Not sure if that was smart thing to say or not?

Not all that work in the mines are Rock Apes.

  11. Martin says:

I hear that the new ford will turn by reversing the wheels on one side of the car and driving forward with the others kinda like an army tank. Plus it’s going to come with a free role of gaffer tape for on road repairs.

  12. Andrew. M says:

also for what holden spent on the E series in comparison ford with its lesser sales would be actually making more money with their FPV’s

  13. tony says:

Not true Andrew, the E-series will spawn several new HSV cars included the Maloo and other variants which were huge sellers for HSV and may even be exported to the US who like it.

  14. Azza says:

I’d just like to point out that HSV has been around for years! And that therefore gives them a greater advantage of a larger stock. Where as FPV has only been around since the demise of Tickford which was mid 2003 i think… FPV in my point of view have done reasonably well in sales with the considering. And lets not forget, that Performance vehicles are about their performance, and I hate to say it, but FPV’s F6 Typhoon has every single HSV car beaten. And just imagine what it will be like when the 2008 FPV range comes out… HSV and Holden will not know what hit them.

  15. alborz says:

Azza, I’d take the HSV R8 over an f6 typhoon anyday
not only does it look better, its faster, has esp, and is far more refined.

  16. jonny noxville says:

alborz, do you need the reasurance that your car will drive its self or are you just so hopeless that u need all the help you can get

  17. Oz. says:

FPV has had their best ever sales, the reason why HSV has more numbers is because they have a huge range, but over at FPV they just new.

Orion FPV Falcons won’t suddenly out-sell HSV, They need to have the Focus, F6X, etc.
