Video of the Nissan GT-R’s latest record breaking lap of the Nurburgring has finally found its way onto the web, giving us a full turn-by-turn account of its 7:26.7 minute lap.
Behind the wheel of the 2009 model GT-R is Nissan’s Chief Test Driver, Toshio Suzuki. Now we just have to wait for the SpecV to make its ‘Ring debut.

Nope the Vette is still the fastest production car around the ‘Ring. Youd have thought that the Enzo with its all carbon body and V12 would have ruled the roost, but go figure, pushrod V8 Americans rule. GO HSV.
Well you’d be a bit worried if your chief test driver ; someone who has done more kms; more laps in the car than anyone else couldn’t get the best time out of such a high tech sports car [which he has been "intimately" involved with] wouldn’t you?
I mean he should have the best understanding of what the car can do and what its potential is etc – and by him posting the fastest lap time shows that his feedback on how to improve the car has been spot on
If you look closely you have to add about 5 seconds (a rough count) to that time as the clock starts around half way down the old pit straight, yet stops at the start….
As to the comments on the start and stop points, I’m not sure what the reasoning is, but timed laps such as this are always done like that at the T13 complex.
The start and stop points roughly line up with where the Nordschleife joins the GP track, so maybe it has something to do with that.
@Yanzo – The clip above is not a bridge to gantry run. BtG runs are done, generally, on public drive days when it is not possible to do a full flying lap. So, the “bridge” is the Bilsten bridge just after the TF gates and the “gantry” is after the exit of Galgenkopf as you start the run up the Döttinger Höhe straight.
General consensus is you need to add 30-40 seconds to BtG runs to get a rough estimate at a time for a full flying lap (depending on the car, of course).
Schah7 im using a table from Wheels magazine, that came out last month. Wikipedia can easily be changed by people who want to. You should get the facts for yourself and not beleive what some Star Wars character tells you.
Shak, while I totally agree with you WRT Wikipedia, I would hardly call Wheels magazine an authoritative document either. I know I have seen many ‘holes’ in some of their stories/facts/figures etc etc… ;-)
I agree that Wikipedia can be dodgy – but when you consider there is video evidence for the cars in 1st, 2nd and 6th place on the Wikipedia list, and the cars in 3rd, 4th and 5th were all part of an evo magazine group test – I think its safe to say that is a bona fide list of genuine times.

Therefore; if you take 4 seconds off of the time set by the ZR-1 Corvette it makes it an even harder benchmark to reach.

You would think that the Vette with it’s 6.2L V8 SUPERCHARGED!!!engine would’ve been faster than the NA Enzo.
The V12 in the Enzo would have TEN times the technology than the WHOLE ZR1 car!
GM produced a superfluous car to show off to the world and went broke in the process.
That would be scary ride im glad i was not sitting in there.I cant imagine the vspec beeing much faster as it has same power just bit lighter and better suspension.But you got to hand it to them its right up there near the top of the list with all those very exspensive sports cars good on them i recone for giving the big boys a hard time

In my previous comment I said that as there is a difference of 4 seconds with the GT-Rs 7.26 lap time [with Nissan factory test driver Suzuki at the wheel] as the stop-watch starts and stops in two different places.. not at the start/finsh line
If you took 4 seconds off of the ZR-1s lap time of 7.26 which was set with GM factory test driver Jim Mero at the wheel] it would have a time of 7.22
According to TMR; late last year Chevrolet took the ZR-1 back to the ring to have a second attempt – This time with European Touring Car Champ Jan Magnussen at the wheel and he reportedly set a time of 7.22 – but this is yet to be confirmed.
Either way – not bad for a supposed dinosaur which costs less than half of the other cars in the top 10
Wheelnut: The ZR1’s 7:26.4 lap time is measured exactly the same way as this lap. I invite you to have a look at the ZR1’s ring video to find out for yourself. All manufacturer lap times are recorded this way. They all exclude the 300m stretch between the entrance to and the exit from the new Nurburgring GP circuit.
Also the ZR1’s 7:22.4 lap time has been confirmed as bogus. Road&track USA first reported the lap time after a number of blogs started talking about it. But after they had a conversation with Tadge Jeuchter, the corvette program director they discovered that neither the ZR1 or Magnussen have been to the ‘ring since Jim Mero’s attempt in June last year.

The car looks to understeer alot and abit of a challenge to drive on the limit.

You don’t add 5 secs as most timed laps at the ‘ring are bridge-to-gantry runs… like the gtr did.
give mea gt-r and let me go round the nurburgring twice. the second time i treckon i could do it under 8 minutes
