Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake pricing and specifications

The Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake will command a $1500 premium over its sedan sibling when deliveries commence in June.

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed the sleek wagon range will come with the same four variants as the sedan, kicking off with the 115kW/250Nm, 1.6-litre CLA200 at $52,400 plus on-road costs.

And extra $500 gets you the 100kW/300Nm 2.1-litre CLA200 CDI, which uses a claimed 4.3 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.

The sportier CLA250 Sport 4MATIC pairs a 155kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine to an all-wheel-drivetrain that offer more traction that the entry variants’ front-drive layout.

Topping out the range is the hardcore CLA45 AMG, which becomes the priciest member of the ’45’ family — also populated by the A45 and GLA45 AMG models — at $89,900.

As with the other 45s, the CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake uses a 265kW/450Nm 2.0-litre turbo engine and a 4MATIC system, leading to a claimed 0-100km/h time of 4.7 seconds — 0.1 slower than the sedan, though one-tenth faster than the GLA version.

All variants get standard features including a powered tailgate, 18-inch wheels, sat-nav, keyless start and a reversing camera. Each variant also gets nine airbags, low-speed autonomous brakes, blind-spot monitor and an active bonnet for pedestrian safety.

In addition, the CLA 250 Sport 4MATIC Shooting Brake gets heated electric front seats and a sunroof. The CLA45 AMG gets 19-inch wheels, the AMG Night Package and Driver’s Package, bigger brakes, higher-end COMAND sat-nav and a boosted Harmon Kardon sound system.

“The new CLA Shooting Brake represents another outstanding offering for our highly successful compact car range” said Mercedes-Benz Australia CEO Horst von Sanden.

“Since its introduction, the CLA-Class has redefined aerodynamic efficiency while offering extremely progressive and unmistakable design. Now in Shooting Brake guise, the CLA again showcases beautiful design, and fuses it with superb practicality and cutting-edge technologies.”

The CLA sedan has been a hit since its launch in early 2013. Last year, Mercedes sold 2682 units, more than the B-Class though some way behind the A-Class (4676). It’s a similar story in 2015.

With the second body style lobbing mid-year, expect this margin to close. Order books for the Shooting Brake, incidentally, are now open.
