Peugeot Australia has suspend sales of the only two commercial vehicles in its local line-up – the Peugeot Partner and Peugeot Expert vans.

The company has removed both vehicles from its Australian websites, with a notice to consumers that states: “The Peugeot range of light commercial vehicles, including the Partner and Expert, are no longer available for sale in Australia”.

It comes as something of a surprise to see the two models removed from sale, as just a few weeks ago the local arm gave the impression it would bring the updated Partner (revealed at the Geneva show) later this year.

It is understood the brand is assessing which models it needs to focus on locally for sustained success in Australia, and Peugeot-Citroen public relations and communications manager Tyson Bowen said both vehicles could return to local shores at some point in the future.

“We’ve sold our existing stock. That part of the business is undergoing a restructure,” Bowen said.

“They have not been axed. That whole commercial side of the business is going through a re-plan, and we’re looking at what we do with that side of the business,” he said.

Bowen indicated that both the Peugeot and Citroen brands are undergoing a rethink right now, and said that “there are all sorts of conversations with PSA” going on right now.

“The current state of play, we’re looking at the entire business of Peugeot, and separately the entire business for Citroen,” he said.

“Rather than making quick decisions in the short term, we’re looking at the business in the long term,” Bowen said.

Sales of both the Peugeot vans have been virtually non-existent in recent times.

So far in 2015, Peugeot has sold zero examples of the larger Expert van (which competes with the likes of the Hyundai iLoad, Ford Transit and Mercedes-Benz Vito, among others) while the smaller Partner (a rival to the Renault Kangoo, Volkswagen Caddy and others) has also fared poorly, registering just six sales this year.

Citroen, on the other hand, is excelling in the commercial segment, with the Berlingo accounting for 36 sales so far in 2015, an increase of 24 per cent on 2014.
