2010 Suzuki Swift prototype spied

This next generation prototype is already living up to its ‘Swift’ namesake with Suzuki’s latest little model spied during skidpan handling tests.
Due to make its official debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, as Suzuki’s best-selling model globally the new version is expected to be Swift by name and Swift by nature.
Despite the heavy camouflage it’s clearly visible that the new Swift will retain is rounded design with short front and rear overhang.
The new model will again be front-wheel-drive with some markets also receiving an optional all-wheel-drive system.
There will be a choice of petrol engines available ranging from 67 to 97kW along with a new 60kW diesel version while a hybrid variant has also been rumoured to follow in 2011 or 2012.
The highly praised Swift Sport will also undoubtedly be making a comeback as the flagship of the range, hopefully with the current model’s fun-factor intact.

















The new one will want to be good. Everyone knows the current swift is a little corker and we will all be looking for great things from its replacement. Fingers crossed….
I cannot get the seat in the current Swift back far enough, a lot of cars have this issue *for me*, MAYBE they will fix it and offer more this time?

90kw engine? It only gets 75kw in the current AU versions. The 1.5L models are fantastic little cars, the new ones will have to have stability control and hopefully they will all get the curtain air bags. Retaining the same look is a smart idea, there’s nothing there that needs fixing.
But the Sport needs more grunt – it’s only a paltry 1.6 litres with 92kw and 148Nm, and costs almost as much as as a Polo GTI with 1.8litres, 110kW and 220Nm. OK, the Polo weighs a bit more, but that’s because it’s more solidly put together.
And you can’t just flash the ECU in a Swift for more power, but for less than $1000 you can bump the Polo up to around 150kw and 280Nm with total reliability and tractability retained.

i have been driving one for the last few weeks, and it is the most fun car I have driven in a long time, ok its not the quickest car in a straight line, but thats not the point, its a fun chuckable high revving fun machine,
Frugal One, the reason you can’t get the Swift’s seat far enough back is because if it went back any further it would bump into the back seat.
Fun car to drive that the Swift is, interior space isn’t one of its strong points. Maybe the new model will go some way towards addressing that.

As the recent ex owner of the current Swift (100k and 4 years), I have to say it was an outstanding car for the price. Let’s hope the new one retains that value for money. I only traded it as my 2 German Shephards found it a bit squeezy in the back. They love the new 6 wagon though!!
ill be first on the list for the AWD Sport version. Just imagine revving the heck out of the thing on a twisty aussie road.

I almost brought a swift sport, But after driving the SX4 AWD which has more interior space, more power and almost as good handling I went with the SX4 which i love!
Forgot to mention, the price was the same.

Another one that the drivers seat does not go back far enough for me.Rather the back seat passenger has no leg room then me sit in pain.PASS
I am just over 6′, NOT a US basketballer tall, but i like to have my legs out straight and relaxed, not all crippled and squashed.
WTF are the designers and planning dept. doing?People are getting taller and fatter yet cars are getting smaller inside.I for one wont be buying something like that.
Here is a hint for a car maker, start from the INSIDE with 4 lounge sized chairs and work outwards, stop following the Italians and trying to make the outside s/exy and suffer for it inside.IE a Tardis if you will!

f-o, if you drove a car like a normal person then you’d fit… when u drive, your knees have to be bent and ur wrists should touch the steering wheel when your arms are stretched out. why is it, my 6′2″ cousin, and his 6′3″ brother in-law have both had no problems driving my Toyota Starlet, when it is way smaller than this with like 1/3 of the interior space? because they drive normally.
now, in regrads to this new swift – love it so far, just hope it has the wrap-around windscreen like he current one. and it looks like the numberplate will be on the hatch instead of the bumper!!!
