Curtain airbags are NOT available on the Focus in Australia, the ones we get are made in South Africa (to the detriment of quality in our experience but then what were we expecting from Ford?) and that factory cannot install them. The Mitsu Colt picks up side and curtains for something like $1600. Which is not bad and one of only a few light cars that make them available.

In this day and age, a 3 star rating should in no way be considered acceptable! Plenty of 4 or 5 star options that perform far better in a crash.

I would also suggest that if you were involved in a side impact (striking a light pole for example) and were without a side curtain airbag, it wouldn’t matter what make or model your car was, or where it was built, the result would be the same. Hitting something side on at anything over 30km/h and you’d be dead.
