Gentleman thank you this is the sort of chart I (and I believe others) are after. The only add on to this that I would like would be last months or years figures along side.
THis shows the type of movement in the market place. 10 Aston’s…. who’d of thunk it??

  • http://www.caradvice.com.au/ alborz

Thanks Frontman, I will add this in for future month tables. For now you can have a look at last months table here:

  • Bavarian Missile®™

wow more interesting Frontman that Porsche almost sold as many as Skoda. I thought Porsche were going through hard times ? Not as much as Skoda it seems.

    Surprised at Minis numbers too.

Seems Lexus isnt the darling of the Luxury Car World in Australia after all, only a quarter of sales too the BIG two Germans .

  • Bavarian Missile®™
  • mdt

Interesting to see Volkswagen has overtaken Subaru this month and broken into 9th position. They’re not far behind Honda either.

  • TSI

Skoda’s doing very well for the company that has been in Australia only about 2 years

  • DesignEng©™

TSI, yeh Skoda almost beat Ssangyog, just need 13% more sales.

  • Jake02

    I agree with TSI (obviously),
I’m quite happy with Skoda sales last month, they really are increasing (albeit gradually) every month. When the Fabia and Yeti arrive, surely more than 1000+ will be sold a month, proving all the doubters wrong.

Especially you BM, Porsche is one of the worlds oldest brands (and has been here for a majority of those years) but Skoda has only been here for less than two years so I reckon that an average of around 100 a month is pretty alright.

Why aren’t you lot complaining about Alfa, Saab, Citroen and Smart? They’ve been here for alot longer than Skoda, yet their sales are at the same level.
    Tools…

  • FrugalOne

This is good A, hope you can show it each month.

In my opinion Kia and Hyundai should be calculated as 1, they are the same owners, work out of the same place, similar managment etc and more and more of the models are exact same under the skin.

Put them both together and you would have 9888 units, *just* behind Ford and good for 3rd spot.

Speaking of Ford i can see them going backwards

    BigT[tm.F-0] have a H U G E lead more than 9000, cannot see them ever being overtaken.

Saab won’t [or its dealers] wont last with those sort of figures, and Lexus [best car on the planet] are not selling as many as i thought they would.

Once again thanks for this A

    Cheers

    F-0

  • Bavarian Missile®™

    Jake why the abuse ?

Just shows your lack of personal development to argue your case as why Skoda sales are so small.

Im not saying Skoda is crap in any sense, cause its not.I know its a well respected quality car in Europe but its reputation has been around longer than 2 years hasnt it ?

  • RoFlmaTiC

Thanks alborz, it would be great to have these tables on a monthly basis. The FCAI website doesn’t seem to offer this breakdown to the general public :(

  • Jimbo

I am blown away that Chrysler and Dodge are selling more cars than Skoda???
Considering they are just VW’s in disguise and VW is 9th.

  • nobody

    47 Hummers sold!???

  • Jake02

    Bm
Apologies where needed, I wasn’t suggesting you think they’re crap, I was suggesting you should know why sales are abit slow (because it’s a new car brand to Australia, people don’t trust them yet etc). Sorry for any offence caused.

Nobody – lol yes many would agree with that!

  • Falcodore

A table of, say, the top 20 models would be a good addition. But in any case its good to see CA giving us something, Thanks guys. Cheers :)

  • Slick shift

Frugal One…..you see Ford going backwards? How do you figure that when most in the industry see them going forwards? Holden is and will continue to go backwards because of the doubt over their survival in australia. Running on empty experts say and many agree, how long they will last is anyones guess but I wouldnt be buying a Commodore or re-badged Daewoo thats for sure. They are only slightly ahead of Ford but Ford is going up and Holden are going down, and the second rate Cruze(another re-badged Daewoo really) wont help either.

  • Frontman

F-O thank you for your hourly commic relief……Yep lets put Hyundai and Kia together… Toyota and Lexus, All the GM brands, All the VWAG….. where would you like this to end?????
Your intelectual insight astounds me, perhaps you had better look harder at the charts my friend, Ford suffered the lowest drop of the big three, compared to last year and I can assure their dealers are perhaps the happiest of the main dealer groups out there this year.

Lexus (best car in the world IYO) has consistantly been that far behind it’s target market. That is why so many of us think it is a joke that so many carry on with how wonderful they are and that their cars are masterpieces of automotive technology and their service is second to none.

These figures actually show what i believe to be a leveling of the market place and following on from the 1st of July price rises and such the market should come in around the 2005 figures by years end.

  • Bavarian Missile®™

No problem Jake , I think they could be in a better position if they did a harder marketing campaign with them.Activity creates results !

I remember sitting in one with Golfy when they were first introduced . We both commented on how good they were for the money .

    Personal Abuse.

  • Jake02

    BM,
I agree with that (your last post) quite alot. I do wish they made more ads than just the sand car, eatmyhat, and the Octavia Scout being the car of choice for the main dude on Sydney Weekender. I’d like to see a Roomster ad (it’s no wonder why they sell so little a month, it’s not advertised! I’d say the TDI is the best car on the market) and more Superb ads. Great company, just not many know about them!

Skodas are, for the money they ask, the best cars on the market i’d say. Their value cannot be beaten (well maybe the stupid Octavia 1.6).

  • crouchy

    @ FrugalOne

Do you really think that hyundai and kia should be put together?

Why then wouldnt Mini go with BMW, Skoda with VW and Smart with Mercedes etc..

Bit of a silly comment imo. Thumbs down lol

  • nobody

Lexus sales are lagging quite abit in the Luxury sector. I think alot has to do with the Toyota stigma as most people don’t want to be spending 60K upwards and having that kinda idea in their head no matter what. Also their lineup isn’t as varied as the Germans. No diesel engines too for their bigger cars. Hybrids are not always everyone’s thing.

Also it looks like the Aussie market’s getting more and more similar to Europeans. Hatchbacks are getting really popular, I believe VW Golf’s are more popular than Commodores with private buyers. We’re also buying more diesel engines and the trend seems to be going up.

While there is a market for Lexus here and I do know of people who love them as I see alot of them in my area, overall it just doesn’t have the lineup to cater for luxury buyers tastes at the moment. Not enough to scare the Germans anyway. Same story in Europe.

  • Slick shift

Maybe we should put Ford and Mazda together too……their cars share alot of FORD platforms, parts and FORD engineering, not mention profit as Ford still own 13% of Mazda.

  • Frenchie

CA, like to see the breakdown figures of cars that are leaders in their respected class of vehicle.

Similar to those on another site: Goauto.

  • Frenchie

See Holden Cruze out-sold Ford Focus for the month of June.

  • Jo

I agree with previous comments. Watch the Koreans: Kia+Hyundai

    Slowly sneaking up the ladder.

  • BK

Its good to see toyota at the top. How many years is that now.Could be decades soon.

  • RLH

Good to see the Ford Territory selling well again. Second in class and on the way back to the top. Not bad for a 5 year old car, just goes to show how good a car it really is, still the best Medium SUV and the only one with any real substance.

  • reality bite

well….territory is the biggest lemons ever.just read the car guides for innocent customers complaining about brakes, rust, ball joints….and dinosaur is still don’t have the integrity to recall .it is dangerous safety problems and ford tried to get a way for 5 years.what a lemon.

  • Limited Slip

Hey Reality Bite…..so un-true. Territory is a reliable and safe vehicle and still the best overall Medium SUV.

  • Wheelnut®™

If that’s the case then the supposed “King of the Road” would also have to be one of the biggest lemons ever because I have rid similar negative comments about various mechanical issues and poor build quality from several Landcruiser owners – surprise surprise

What’s more whereas the problems relating to the Tory are confined mainly to Australia; the Cruiser is sold all over the world which means the problems are much more widespread

Just to even things up a bit

  • reality bite

    peanut
why your beloved dinosaur losing money for 5 years straight?btw only bogans read that dinosaur(wheels)magazine.
luckily in a year time there will be less bogans and less dinosaurs on the road

  • reality bite

all dinosaur(wheels)magazine’s car of year became a lemon.

  • Wheelnut®™

I find it funny that people on here who like to make out that they are far more intelligent and well educated than those so called “bogans” who either like own or drive Holdens think if Holden go bust and stop making cars in Australia that somehow the hundreds of thousands of Holdens that have been made/sold over the years [from FX-VE] and are still around today due to their reliability and longevity etc will disappear from our roads/driveways overnight.. as if they will all spontaneously combust evapourate or disntegrate. LOL :)

  • Limited Slip

Reality Bite…..learn to write english properly please so we can laugh even louder at you stupid irrelevant comments !!

  • Jake02

    Reality bite,
You are quite wrong. Bogans read Motor magazine not Wheels. Mainly because Motor is Ford vs Holden in every issue, and primarily because Wheels has reviews for people with all amounts of budgets (bogans only read on stuff they can’t afford).

Judging by your grammar, it sounds like you may be a bogan, no offence.

Thanks Frontman, I will add this in for future month tables. For now you can have a look at last months table here:

  • SkodaConvert

I have to say i am impressed and encouraged by Skoda’s sales as they were almost written off before even starting given their previous perception in this country. I have worked at VW and own a Golf but i have also driven the Skoda Octavia and truth be told i prefer it to the VW. Design wise and the general feel of the internal cabin is nicer, it’s just a shame the exterior is a little bland but that forms a part of its appeal also. When i made the move in 2001 to work with VW people laughed at me and couln’t undestand why i would want to work with such a niche european ‘unknown’ brand (for Australia). Now every man and his dog wants one, mark my words Soda will be the same!!!

  • SkodaConvert

I should also add, I DARE YOU to drive the 1.8ltr DSG Skoda and compare it to the Mazda 6 or the Honda Accord and tell me that the Japanese products are better. I would be astounded if anyone truly felt that the Skoda wasn’t a better purchase.

Badge snobbery is what has lead people buy and feel superior in second rate products like the BMW 318i and then bleed on resale. This car won’t impress your friends but it will make you feel like you made a wiser decision based on logic not wank factor.
