2009 Hyundai iX35 crossover SUV spied
July 2, 2009 by George Skentzos
The successor to the current Hyundai Tucson has been spied yet again near the Nurburgring, this time with a name, with the new model likely to be called the iX35.
Displayed in Geneva in concept guise as the HED-6, the production iX35 will be ready for its official launch later this year at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
Featuring the jointly developed Hyundai-Kia automatic stop-start technology, the new crossover SUV will be powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine developing 130kW.
This will be mated to an all-new six-speed automatic transmission delivering power to all four wheels.
A diesel powerplant from Hyundai’s new R-engine range should also feature in the new generation line-up which should produce 137kW and 400Nm.

This is going to sell its little box off…
1.6ltr = 130kw???? Surely this is turbo or one high compression block?
Joober^^^^
Its got this high output because its a hybrid, petrol and battery/electric working together.
If they can keep the same price as now, sell a 2WD they will sell zillions of them.
Here in 2010, no stoping Hyundai/Kia group!
Cheers

with the Hyundai/Kia group succeeding in so many classes, we have to make way for their awesome new products. This is just another brilliant product from the Korean powerhouse.
I do like this, it’ll different in a good way (like the current one is different in a bad way).
Any word on the ix55/Veracruz making its way down here?
Hyundai is definitely improving, may it be in looks or performance. Another good thing is it offers fuel economy cars that many would pick over other brands due to economic crisis. Give this Hyundai/Kia Group another year or two and they will be out there competing with other leading car brands.
Looks fantastic, but can we have diesel rather than the hybrid, and not 4WD? That would be worth waiting for over the i30cw …
All these comments on how it looks fantastic. How can you tell – you can’t see it.
Hal we mean the shape and profile.
Well the concept car looked fantastic!
IMO it looks like an I30 on stilts.
Hyundai seem to be following the BMW way of naming their models!
Out of all the brands, KIA/HYUNDAI products are the most similar.
Under that is also the Kia Sportage waiting to get out!
New “R” spec. H/K group diesel and 6-speed-auto that they have just produced are amazing, beats the euros and jappers at their own game!!
The LPG/Hybrid is also genius at work.
Well done H/K Group, keep the innovations coming!
Cheers
