2016 Mitsubishi Outlander spotted with no camouflage

The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander has been caught with no disguise ahead of its local debut in April.

Mitsubishi had given buyers an idea of what to expect from the updated model with its Outlander PHEV Concept-S show car, which debuted in 2014, but it is clear that some of the sharper lines haven't carried over to the production model based on these images, posted on Brazilian website Carplace.

There have been big changes at the front and the rear, however, with the back end gaining new, broad tail-lights that are linked with a chrome embellishment and sit atop a reshaped tailgate and new rear bumper.

The front appears to have carried over the X-shaped chrome trimming, which spans from the lower bumper up to the edges of the headlights.

The side profile gets expanded black plastic cladding and door strips, while new wheel designs are also likely, and the company has suggested that the interior of the car will see some changes, too.

It isn't clear what buyers can expect to change under the bonnet, if anything. The current Outlander is powered by a range of engines - a front-drive 2.0-litre four-cylinder base model - and three all-wheel-drive offerings: a 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol, a 2.0-litre turbo diesel and the plug-in hybrid PHEV petrol-electric model.

Stay tuned for more on the updated Mitsubishi Outlander in the coming weeks.
