Morgan Aero 8 update debuts curvy new rear-end with reverse-hinged boot

In time for the car's fifteenth anniversary, the speciality UK carmaker has unveiled the fifth iteration of the Morgan Aero 8 at the 2015 Geneva motor show.

Unlike many updates and facelifts that lead from the front, with the most prominent changes being made to the head of the car and just cursory revisions for the rump, the updated Morgan Aero 8 has flipped things around.

Ahead of the A-pillar, the "fifth-generation" Aero 8 looks little different, with the cross-eyed-looking headlights and prominent horseshoe-style grille still very much present.

The revised Aero 8 has a completely revised rear end that now features slimline LED tail-lights, a rear-opening clamshell boot lid and rounded lines, which integrate far more cohesively with the rest of the car.

Morgan's engineering team has also given the Aero 8's aluminium chassis greater torsional stiffness, a new suspension setup, anti-roll bars and a limited-slip differential from BMW.

An optional removable hardtop allows owners to transform the Aero 8 from a open-top vehicle to a coupe. The Aero 8's interior now includes a revised dashboard, as well the usual assortment of real wood inserts, woven carpets and acres of leather.

According to the company, the Aero 8's new air conditioning system is "more usable in warmer climates". Buyers can choose to have their Aero 8 delivered with a factory-fit touchscreen entertainment system, carbonfibre shell seats, or almost any type of bespoke detailing or customisation.

Under the Aero 8's long bonnet is a 4.8-litre BMW V8 churning out 270kW of power and 490Nm of torque to the rear wheels. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters.

Weighing 1180 kilograms in manual form, the Aero 8 can complete the 0-100km/h dash in 4.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 270km/h.
