Taxi! Uber goes exotic for Melbourne F1

Controversial ride-share company Uber is getting into the spirit of the upcoming Melbourne Formula One Grand Prix by offering folks free rides around the Albert Park circuit in some pretty heavy-hitting exotic metal.

The private transport group is giving 20 people the chance to roll through Melbourne's 5.3-kilometre Albert Park Formula 1 circuit this Thursday (March 5, 2015) in a 421kW/620Nm Aston Martin V12 Vantage S, 425kW/540Nm V8-powered Ferrari 458 Italia or 419kW/540Nm V10-powered Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera.

To be one of the 20, you’ll need to request a ride between 7pm-10pm on Thursday night and enter the promotion code ‘UberRACER’ into the Uber app.

Uber stresses that due to the Albert Park circuit still being a public road at this time, "speed limits will be adhered to at all times”. You must also be within 5km of Albert Park Lake to successfully request an ‘UberRACER’ ride.

The 2015 F1 Australian Grand Prix kicks off in Melbourne on March 12, with Australia’s own Daniel Ricciardo leading the Infiniti Red Bull Racing team for the first time, following former teammate Sebastian Vettel’s switch to Ferrari.

Earlier today Renault announced it will send its record-breaking Megane RS275 Trophy-R out onto the Australian Grand Prix racetrack later in the month to set the first-ever production car lap record of the Melbourne street circuit.
