Range Rover Evoque Convertible confirmed for production

Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed that the Range Rover Evoque Convertible will be heading into production.

According to the company, the Evoque Convertible will be produced at the company's Halewood plant in the UK and will head into showrooms from 2016. We're waiting to hear back about Australian availability and on-sale timing.

Range Rover first toyed with idea of an Evoque Convertible when it unveiled the concept car (below) back at the 2012 Geneva motor show.

The Tata-owned brand is keeping specifics about the production vehicle secret until later this year. If the prototype vehicle (bottom) is any guide, the production car shouldn't differ too significantly, at least visually, from the earlier concept car.

To coincide with this announcement, the company filmed a prototype vehicle driving through London's still-under-construction Crossrail network of tunnels.

The Crossrail project is adding around 42 kilometres of new commuter rail tunnels, as well as roughly 40 new stations, underneath the UK's main city in order to connect Reading and Heathrow in the west to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east.
