2016 Porsche 911 Turbo : Facelifted model spied inside and out

The Porsche 911 Turbo prototype spotted during winter testing by our European spy photographers wears clever stickers disguising the front and rear lights of the updated model, but the interior shots snapped by our guys on the snowy ground appear to show what to expect from the revised 911.

The most notable change is the larger touchscreen PCM (Porsche Communication Management) infotainment system, which controls audio, navigation and other vehicle systems. It is expected the new screen will bring with it more advanced graphics and better mapping than is currently available in the sports car.

The second big change is the steering wheel, which looks similar to the one used in the Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid hypercar.

That wheel brings with it different functions, and it arguably looks more sporty than the flatter wheel currently used in the 911. It is also likely to feature a driving mode selector - with access to Sport and Sport Plus settings - that will replace the button in the centre console area.

Our spies think the car may also have a "Turbo Boost" function, which may be packaged with the Sport Chrono pack, as is fitted to this prototype - the telltale stopwatch on top of the dash gives that away.

While this car is likely to be the actual range-topping 911 Turbo, CarAdvice has previously reported that Porsche could turbocharge more of its 911 range as part of this mid-life facelift of the 991-generation model.

The engine currently used in the entry-level Carrera is a 3.4-litre six-cylinder, which could reportedly drop to a 2.9-litre turbo six. The Carrera S has a 3.8-litre six, and a turbocharged version of that engine could push its power from the current 294kW to as much as 395kW.

If that were the case, the 3.8-litre turbo in the 911 Turbo could also see a big power bump from its current outputs of 394kW and 710Nm (on overboost). It could overtake the 911 Turbo S, which has 412kW/750Nm.

No official information has been made available just yet, but stay tuned for more.

The 2016 Porsche 911 is expected to be revealed at this year's Frankfurt motor show before going on sale next year.
