Suzuki CEO had no contact on VW stake

By Matt Brogan |

The head of Suzuki said he has had no contact with Volkswagen regarding a 10 per cent stake in the company as was reported in German newspaper Manager Magazine last week.

The report claimed Volkswagen was exploring a deal to cooperate with Suzuki to boost its presence in ultra-small cars.

“So far there’s been absolutely no contact (with Volkswagen),” CEO Osamu Suzuki said. “Lately, we’ve been the victim of a lot of rumors (of equity tie-ups and cooperation deals).”

The news had pushed Suzuki’s shares up 5.5 per cent on Friday. They ended down 2.5 per cent yesterday.

    *****PRIMO!*****

I did/nt think this looked like a good marriage.

VERY interested to see the job that Suzuki have done with its all-new largish sedan.

Suzuki actually are a large volume producer, larger than you think.

Not sure, the next big motorshow in Europe is in Sept/October i think, so i would say that would be its world-release, sales would then commence in early 2010.

From what i have hear i am sure Suzuki are really going to turn some heads with this new vehicle!

I am ALL FOR more choices for us customers, and value loaded products!

    Cheers

The car pictured in this article – the VW Fox – shows how much VW needs a partner like Suzuki. The Fox sells in small numbers in Europe for the simple reason that it is complete rubbish. Suzuki could help VW produce a sub-Polo car that is half decent.

I have never seen this model VW before I kinda like it. I didn’t know that Suzuki and VW were in talks in going into business together, interesting.

“The news had pushed Suzuki’s shares up 5.5 per cent on Friday. They ended down 2.5 per cent yesterday.”

There is the reason for the rumour. Someone made a huge profit on the market. Nothing to do with cars.

VW needs Suzuki’s help? Hardly, Zuks are not bad, I like them, but there is nothing in the Suzuki camp that VW can learn from.

Quite the opposite – the Swift GT would benefit immensely from a turbo engine a-la Polo GTI (and then some brakes to go with it, and some better engine mounts, and a stronger gearbox).

Now who is going to teach VW now how to connect wires properly and assemble the CV Driveshafts on their cars?

Reference…Wheels magazine Golf Mark V1 test and Tiguan Annual wheels car evaluation criteria.
