2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class convertible caught testing again

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class convertible has again been spotted cold weather testing, this time almost sans-camouflage, ahead of its public reveal at September’s Frankfurt motor show.

This topless cruiser is to be the sixth and final member of the burgeoning S-Class range, joining the short- and long-wheelbase sedans, the Coupe, the Mercedes-Maybach and the Pullman.

The S-Class convertible will be a soft-topped luxury cruiser for what Benz calls the “star gazers” among us. The styling? Well, just take the gorgeous S-Class Coupe and replace the metal roof with fabric.

A spiritual successor to the W112 SE and W113 SL ragtops of the 1960s and 1970s, it will be aimed squarely at Bentley’s open-aired Continental, and is a fair chance at being the most opulent boulevard cruiser this side of a Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead.

There is also likely to be some inspiration taken from the Ocean Drive concept displayed at the 2007 Detroit motor show, albeit without the four-door layout.

Coupe technology such as curve tilting technology and Magic Ride Control will feature, as will the familiar turbo V8 engines and potentially an S65 V12 version. You might also speculate that this will be the world’s quietest convertible from inside the cabin.
