2015 Renault Captur pricing and specifications

The Renault Captur has finally landed in Australia, launching today from $22,990 plus on-road costs.

The Renault Captur joins Australia’s burgeoning sub-compact SUV segment alongside the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Holden Trax, Nissan Juke and Peugeot 2008, and lands days before the new Honda HR-V and weeks before the Mazda CX-3.

The three-variant Captur line-up includes the entry-level Expression manual, the $25,990 Expression auto, and the range-topping $27,990 Dynamique auto.

Expression variants come standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights and wipers, LED daytime running lights, rear parking sensors, reverse-view camera, one-touch door unlocking and ‘walk-away’ locking, push-button start, cruise control, climate control, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation and Bluetooth phone connectivity and audio streaming.

Stepping up to Dynamique brings larger 17-inch alloys, standard two-tone body paint, fog lights with cornering function, dark tinted rear windows and tailgate, chrome tailgate strip and interior trim, storage nets on front seatbacks, and nifty removable seat covers that can be unzipped and washed to keep clean.

Unfortunately, as with Clio, Captur misses out on curtain airbags for back-seat passengers, offering only dual front and side bags for those in the front.

The Captur line-up comprises two distinct drivetrains. The base model teams a 66kW/135Nm 0.9-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine with a five-speed manual transmission, while automatic versions pair an 88kW/190Nm 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The former is more frugal (4.9 versus 5.4 litres per 100 kilometres on the combined cycle), while the latter is quicker (10.9 seconds 0-100km/h versus 13.0sec).

The Renault Captur measures 4122mm long, 1778mm wide, 1566mm tall, and sits on a 2606mm wheelbase, making it, for comparison’s sake, 156mm shorter and 108mm lower at the roofline than the Holden Trax, yet with a 51mm-longer wheelbase.

The Captur’s sliding rear seat base allows owners to expand the boot from 377 to 455 litres while keeping all seats in place, and folding the 60:40 seatbacks forward opens up 1235L of cargo space.

Renault’s comprehensive aftersales program supports Captur owners with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, five years of roadside assistance, and three-years/45,000km capped-price servicing fixed at $299 per service.
