Opel Corsa OPC revealed with 152kW turbo

Overnight GM pulled the sheets off the new Opel Corsa OPC/Vauxhall Corsa VXR hot hatch, which looks barely a pixel different to the leaked images that surfaced the yesterday.

Under the bonnet, the Opel Corsa OPC features a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine churning out 152kW of power and 245Nm of torque, with up to 280Nm available on overboost. Power is directed to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

Opel claims that the hottest member of the fifth-generation Corsa family can complete the 0-100km/h sprint in 6.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 230km/h. Driven at a less frenetic pace the Corsa OPC may come close to its official fuel economy rating of 7.5L/100km.

The Corsa OPC/VXR rides on standard 17-inch alloy wheels clad in 215/45 Michelin tyres, while the braking package features 308mm discs up front. Traction and stability control can be set to on, off or competition mode, which gives the driver a long leash before stepping in.

Compared to regular Corsas, the OPC/VXR features a Koni-developed suspension setup that sits 10 millimetres closer to ground and is equipped with a Frequency Selective Damping system.

An optional performance package includes a Drexler multi-disc mechanical differential lock, 18-inch alloy wheels, a tweaked chassis setup and Brembo high performance brakes with 330mm discs up front.

Visually the new Corsa OPC/VXR is distinguished from its slower siblings by larger air intakes at the front, a visual scoop where the bonnet's leading edge and the bumper meet, extended side sills and a dual-tip Remus exhaust system. A subtle rear wing is standard, while a larger, more flamboyant one is available on the options list.

On the inside, the Corsa OPC/VXR features as standard Recaro sports seats up front, a flat-bottomed leather steering wheel, sports pedals, and GM's touchscreen IntelliLink entertainment system.

The Corsa OPC/VXR will make its public debut at the Geneva motor show, which takes place at the beginning of March. As we reported last year, at least one variant of the new Corsa range is expected to land in Holden showrooms to complement the Astra VXR and Insignia VXR.
