Jaguar F-Type Australian range updated with manual, all-wheel-drive models

The 16MY Jaguar F-Type range will bring with it a new entry-point below $120,000 (before on-road costs) courtesy of a new six-speed manual transmission, while all-wheel drive has also been added across various derivatives.

The new six-speed manual transmission is available in both the F-Type Coupe and F-Type Convertible model lines can be had with either the standard supercharged V6 petrol engine or the higher-output V6 S drivetrain. The manual 'box is only available on rear-drive F-Type models.

All-wheel drive is the other big addition to the updated model range, with Jaguar's "intelligent all-wheel drive" allowing the car to "set new standards for dynamics and driver involvement" including "rear-wheel drive feel, all-wheel drive traction".

That system is offered in the 280kW V6 F-Type S Coupe and the grunty (404kW/680Nm) supercharged V8 R Coupe and the newly added F-Type R Convertible (previously the V8 S drop-top with 364kW/625Nm). AWD models come standard with the existing eight-speed auto with paddleshifters.

The AWD system uses "Intelligent Driveline Dynamics" to help get the power where it needs to be. According to the brand, when you're not driving on the limit, "100 per cent of engine torque is sent to the rear axle", but as required, "the electromechanically-actuated coupling in the transfer case enables smooth transfer of torque to the front axle". Jaguar claims "the process is virtually transparent to the driver".

Further differentiating AWD models to their rear-drive contemporaries is a "unique bonnet design featuring a deeper ‘power bulge’ and distinctive new vents".

According to Jaguar, the AWD F-Type R can run from 0-100km/h in just 4.1 seconds - just 0.1sec quicker than the rear-drive model. The Convertible R is claimed to complete the run from standstill to triple figures in 4.3sec - a full 0.6sec faster than the V6 S rag-top.

Jaguar has taken the updated as an opportunity to adjust some of its standard equipment levels, including adding the popular Switchable Active Sports Exhaust system as standard to all F-Type variants. The brand's Torque Vectoring by Braking - which can clamp down on the inside brakes to improve turn response - is now fitted to V6 models as well as the V8 versions, on which it was already standard.

The V6 S and range-topping V8-powered R models now come with a reverse-view camera and front parking sensors as standard, while all models adopt a new electronic power steering system that is said to "enable even greater precision and feel" while also incrementally improving emissions (down 4g/km on the EU test cycle).

Jaguar will commence deliveries of F-Type manual variants from July, while all-wheel drive models should hit showrooms in April.
