Suzuki gets strong start to 2015 as it plots sales turnaround

Suzuki Australia is confident of turning around around its lacklustre 2014 sales performance this year, a position made all the more viable after the company posted improved figures in January.

Official VFACTS new car registration figures won’t come out until Wednesday, but Suzuki’s local arm jumped the gun and reported a 40 per cent increase in sales for last month compared to January 2014.

The company also affirmed its goal to return to the 20,000-plus sales mark by year’s end, compared to the 17,422 units it sold in 2014. For comparison, the company managed 22,075 units in 2013.

Most beneficial to the brand is the improved supply it has attained out of both Japan and Hungary (where it gets the S-Cross) compared to the start of last year. In 2014, sluggish supply significantly collared its results.

The January 2015 total of 1608 vehicles delivered included strong form from the big-volume Swift (a top-two player in private sales within its segment), which grew 93 per cent over last January’s 486-unit figure to about 940 vehicles.

Given the company will continue its MY14 plate clearance deals into February, expect this to continue.

The S-Cross crossover — which as we know has been heavily discounted — also recorded 72 per cent growth to 165 units, still a small figure but a better one than last January.

As reported, the company is chasing 30,000 units inside three years, by which time it will have launched as many as six new models on the market.

For 2015, the company welcomes the Celerio, which replaces the Alto at the entry level of the range from later this month. Around August, the all-new Vitara comes, giving Suzuki a stronger presence in the compact SUV market.

Suzuki Australia Automobiles general manager Andrew Moore called 2015 the first stage in “a new era of growth” for the Japanese Manufacturer.

“Suzuki’s range of fun to drive and reliable models continue to offer outstanding value and have got Suzuki off to a great start in 2015,” he said.

“Plus with new models including Celerio launching this month and the exciting all-new Vitara later in the year I’ve no doubt Suzuki will achieve over 20,000 unit sales in 2015.”
