Alpine Vision Gran Turismo previews some styling cues of 2016 Renault sports car

Renault has unveiled the Alpine Vision Gran Turismo, which not only celebrates the brand's 60th anniversary, but also bares some hallmarks of the upcoming Alpine production car.

According to the car's designer, Victor Sfiazof, the Alpine Vision Gran Turismo has a front end that's inspired by the A110 (bottom image, foreground), which is arguably Alpine's most famous model to date.

Other cues cribbed from the A110 include the nose's V-shape and its additional driving lights.

The Vision Gran Turismo's long tail and rear-end styling, on the other hand, is said to be a homage to Alpine's Le Mans racecars from the 1960s, including the A210 and A220.

Also included throughout the Vision Gran Turismo are some styling cues that will grace the new Alpine production car, which is due in 2016. The company did not elaborate as to which of the Vision Gran Turismo's design ticks will end up on the 2016 Alpine, though.

Renault claims that the Alpine concept weighs a scant 900 kilograms thanks to its carbon monocoque body. Mounted amidships is a 4.5-litre V8 petrol engine, which delivers 336kW of power and 580Nm of torque to the rear wheels via a seven-speed sequential transmission.

A top speed of 320km/h is said to be achievable in the single-seat car.

A full size model of the Alpine Vision Gran Turismo will be on display at the Festival Automobile International that's currently taking place in Paris. The car will then make an appearance at the Retromobile Show, also in Paris, in early February.

The virtual edition won't be available until the free March update for Gran Turismo 6 on PlayStation 3.
