Video: Next-gen Astra takes on its rivals

Vauxhall has issued a low-blow to both Ford and Volkswagen, releasing a video of the upcoming new-generation Astra apparently beating its closest rivals around the Millbrook Proving Ground test track in Bedfordshire, England.

The new Astra may indeed be in a league of its own, however with Vauxhall’s own BTCC pilot, Fabrizio Giovanardi behind the wheel it is more likely this is an attempt at viral marketing gone amiss.

I’m sure the Astra is a good enough car that they don’t have to stoop to this low level of crap.

The first thing I noticed is the Golf (a 90TSI with substitute cheap rubber?) was waaaaay wide of the apex when the Astra approached at twice the speed, clearly the Golf driver was not fanging.

Same thing with the Focus a few corners later.

Looks like the Astra marketing has learned a trick from Nissan – pretend the car is faster than its rivals, but don’t provide proof……

still even if the video is bogus, the next gen Astra looks very good, and the cruze has given us a preview of the design of the interior. The astra of course will be more upmarket than the cruze. Cmon HOLDEN BRING THIS HERE!!!!!

S, Probably not, for the same reason why they stoped importing the current Astra. It would be going up against the Holdenwoo Cruze!

I’d love to see Opel separate from GM and then establish itself as a brand in Australia. I think their cars would sell better than under the Holden badge.
