Ford Focus RS teased, will be revealed February 4

Ford of Europe has posted a highly edited teaser clip of its soon-to-be-released Ford Focus RS uber-hot-hatch on YouTube.

At the end of the video the company confirms that the Focus RS will be unveiled, and hopefully detailed, on February 3 European time. This works out, most likely, as a February 4 reveal for those of us living on Australia's eastern seaboard.

The video shows the Focus RS, with traction or stability control disabled, sliding around corners and in the rain on Ford proving grounds in Belgium and the US.

As far as looks go, the video doesn't give any further clues about the production car. Indeed it seems as though the camouflage is a little heavier handed and more restrictive than seen on the cars snapped by our spy photographers in October last year.

It's widely expected that the new Focus RS will ditch the previous-generation's 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder engine for a version of the 2.3-litre turbo four-pot fitted to the new Mustang.

The rumourmill indicates that the RS's 2.3-litre EcoBoost motor will generate around 240kW of power for the front wheels to handle. A development of the previous car's RevoKnuckle front suspension will attempt to reign in torque steer, while a limited-slip differential will help to get power to the ground as cleanly as possible.

If the 240kW figure is on the mark, the new Focus RS will be more powerful than the both previous-generation model (224kW) and the new Mustang (231kW).
