Skoda Superb Estate spotted

The upcoming Skoda Superb Estate (or Combi) has been spotted on test in Europe by our friends at AutoExpress showing for the first time what we can expect from the spacious wagon when it’s released in just a few months.
At around 4850mm in length the Superb Estate will be roughly the same size as its sedan sibling externally but is said to be somewhat taller thanks to a revised rear seat arrangement and additional cargo area.
The same powertrain arrangements as found in the upcoming sedan will also be offered across the wagon range with three diesel and three petrol engines available – all of which are Volkswagen sourced.
CarAdvice will be attending the launch of the Skoda Superb sedan in a little under a week’s time, so stay tuned for a full report soon.

Superb up front, followed by Octavia. Our WA dealer appears to have vanished. I went to call in the other day and found an Office Works in its place.
Golfschwein:this is exactly what I’ve feared may happen with Skoda in Australia. They’ve been the victims of bad timing and ambitious pricing . Hopefully not a sign of things to come.
The car in the rear looks like an Octavia wagon, not to mention the photo itself looks like it has been Photoshopped (the Superb looks like its been dumped there; i.e. not in the actual photo).
The blurred car in the front of the image is the Superb.
Ok, the headlights are from a facelifted octavia, as it now too contains a stripe with “octavia” name plate.
But the car is definitely a superb. This is because the doors have no metal pillars, just like the superb, but not the octavia… It’s also the same shape and size!
Skoda does mule up it’s test vehicles while testing…which would acount for the octavia II lights.

The car behind is a Superb, it’s just disguised as an Octavia wagon to (try) and fool people. As I said in the Fabia Scout post, the WA dealer was run by tools, and a second one is apparently being built. This Superb wagon will be an awesome car, as well as the saloon, and I would easily have one over a base Commodore or Falcon or Aurion. Think about how much extra stuff comes STD on the base Superb for only $3k more!
Skoda needs the Fabia and Superb sooner rather than latet to help bolster it’s local sales.
I saw the Sales figures on C/A for the month of May (Or maybe it was April) cant find the post…saying that Skoda shifted just 80 cars in Oz for the month…even Chryler sold more cars during that month with all the bad press and uncertanty surrounding the brand.
Like Simonsez probably a victim tro bad timimg and ambitious pricing plus some bad luck with the market dropping.
Okay, news to hand is this: a new WA dealer is being appointed in July, followed by northern suburbs and Bunbury in coming months. They’re staying, after all.
I think the Superb looks awesome and I test drove one yesterday as they are already out with dealers. I contacted Skoda customer assist and they confirmed a dealer is starting in Perth on July 1st. Skoda’s sales in Australia may not be setting the world on fire, but they are ahead of this time last year which is better than nearly every other manufacturer, albeit off a small base. You’ve got to crawl before you can walk, and I think Skoda Australia are doing great things in this market and after they’ve got a full compliment of products and a dealer network that is firing on all cylinders – they’ll be a serious player in this market.

I have left a motor group after 12 years of which i spent 8 in Volkswagen to find a position in Skoda. The group i was with had a showroom in a semi-rural area and complained that it was a dud product and no one wants it. This is the same comments i used to get when working out of a tiny VW showroom in 2001, now every want to be toff wants a VW. Skoda will be successful and with the design heading in the right direction i think people will soon warm to them and realise how well adapted this product is to our market. Pricing also needs to be readjusted rather than being 2-3,000 cheaper than the VW equivalent they need to get at least a $3-5,000 difference feature for feature for it to find its feet properly. All the quality and technology and non of the wank factor, i think given our affinity with the tall poppy syndrome this will be seen as the smarter choice to VW, as VW has been perceived as the smarter choice to Audi until now.
