Shak, Hydrogen is stalling not progressing. Over 40 years in development and we still won't be able to buy a car like the clarity for another decade!

Why?

a) Its well to wheels efficiency is too low like 30% compared to 80% for a battery car

b) Its just too expensive, 1M USD for a honda FCX, thats not coming down anytime soon. Half that cost buys you a lightning GT!!!

c) If they did have the infrastructure now, who controls the prices? Our good friend the oil companies, who produce 80% of all H2 from natural gas reforming!

Lazybones hydrogen is pretty good, its just that its a few years off(decades). The Honda FCX Clarity has proven that hydrogen is viable. the only thing stopping it is the infrastructure.

"I must be the ONLY one who sees NO future in electric cars"

Electric cars are the only choice FO, it just a case of if they are powered by battery (most likely) or Fuel cell (Not f*cking likely!)

As for batteries, keep in mind they are ONLY recycleable. You cannot dispose of them in the bin and we've been recycling rechargables for years. Its only the Fossil fuel contingient who claim its impossible. Read the label on the back of a laptop battery.

As for the impact battieries have on the environment just take a look at the bio-harzards that come out of a standard car service like Oil & Coolant!!

Australia's piss poor effort of 10% energy from renewables has to change regardless of what we drive. I'm glad to see the public have created a dent in the solar market as a show of support!!!

But yes a fuel goes up, the better an EV starts to look. Given the saudi's now want $100 per barrel It won't be long before we all start screaming fuel watch!!!

I hope Renault will integrate some of the technology they learn from making these EV's into making some of their current models hybrid. For example a Laguna hybrid and a Mégane hybrid. The Laguna is already very aerodynamic thanks to its liftback/sportback profile, so thats already little drag, therefore aiding for greater efficiency.

better to have a few more power plants, batteries and electric cars, rather than all the refineries, oil slicks and cars pumping out exhaust gas. seems like a simple choice to me and most everyone else.

FYI there are batteries coming that will power a laptop for a year on a single charge, its a way off, but the technology is coming.

better battery tech, hydrogen (maybe) or Nuclear/solar/wind/wave/hydro etc power is the future. there is NO future for oil/petrol cars, its just a matter of time.

*****PRIMO!*****

I must be the ONLY one who sees NO future in electric cars.

Has anybody thought about all the energy required to make the batteries, all the coal required to charge the thing, and the Prius issue of disposal of the batteries...

Thought not...

A good idea on paper, but cost and downside is way to much.....maybe if ULP is $10L?

Cheers
