McLaren P1 GTR confirmed for 2015 Geneva motor show debut

The McLaren P1 GTR  the British brand's most powerful and most exclusive model yet – will make its production car debut at the 2015 Geneva motor show in March.

A fresh video teaser of the 736kW rear-wheel-drive hybrid hypercar accompanied McLaren's announcement of the car's motor show premiere, with the sports car maker confirming production of the limited edition track-only model will begin later in the year.

Seen in design concept form at last year's Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the McLaren P1 GTR is set to feature a stripped out – and predominantly carbonfibre – interior, more aggressive body work and racing slicks.

Named in honour of the 20th anniversary of the McLaren F1 GTR’s 1995 Le Mans 24 Hour victory – the first McLaren to wear the three-letter moniker – the P1 GTR is powered by an uprated version of the 673kW/900Nm petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain found in the road-going P1. In street-legal guise, that unit comprises a 542kW/720Nm twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 engine and a 132kW/260Nm electric motor.

Don't get your cheque books out just yet, though, the McLaren P1 GTR will only be available to existing P1 owners through a £1.98 million ($3.6 million) ownership program, for use on Formula One racetracks.
