2015 Holden Cruze and Holden Corsa VXR spied in Melbourne

CarAdvice has spotted a camouflaged prototype of what is tipped to become the Holden Corsa VXR undergoing testing in Melbourne alongside a partially disguised 2015 Holden Cruze.

Pictured in this exclusive set of photographs is the updated Corsa VXR, the hot-hatch version of the Corsa city car that was previously sold in Australia as the Opel Corsa OPC.

The 2015 Corsa VXR is seen here in right-hand-drive form testing alongside a left-hand-drive version of the outgoing Corsa hot-hatch.

The updated Corsa VXR goes on sale overseas from March with revised styling and an uprated 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine - tuned with the help of Australian engineers - under its bonnet.

While power outputs are yet to be released, CarAdvice recently revealed the Corsa VXR will produce more than 150kW, outgunning the likes of the Ford Fiesta ST (134kW-147kW), Volkswagen Polo GTI (141kW), Renault Clio RS200 (147kW) and Peugeot 208 GTI (147kW).

Our exclusive photographs of the right-hand-drive Corsa VXR indicate it could be in the process of being readied for release in the Australian market, joining the Astra VXR and Insignia VXR performance models that are due to arrive locally in the second quarter of 2015.

Holden product communications manager Mark Flintoft said he could not shed any light on whether the Corsa VXR was headed for Australian showrooms, telling only that "at this stage the vehicle is unconfirmed for the Australian market".

"Our Holden engineering team works on a number of global engineering programs, not all of which come to Australia," Flintoft said.

Images of the 2015 Holden Cruze reveal that a new front-end will feature prominently across the range.

Changes to the exterior are set to include the introduction of LED daytime running lights and potentially new upper and lower grilles.

The US-spec 2015 Chevrolet Cruze (pictured below) has already been revealed and could provide hints to the updated styling of Holden's refreshed Cruze.

When quizzed about the 2015 Holden Cruze, Flintoft said its launch was imminent, with the vehicle set to go on sale towards the of the month.

CarAdvice will keep you posted with any further details as they come to hand.
