Lyndon Bushnell - I learnt, when little, my dad at times cried because he was driving the car his 16yr old brother died in. By the age of 16 I knew friends do die in road accidents,(one year and 3 close friends dead). And it continues on...
As to no playing in the mud away from public roads - I have lived in Pirie all my life and know that area is public; people including kids go out that way to ride bikes, go further for the fishing also.
As to outback remote places - that area is not remote and to say it is outback is just a real stretch of the imagination.
A huge problem on our roads is people decide what rules / laws they will abide by and which ones they think dont apply to them...
Lucky the person filming was not hurt.
Elmo - dont insult Derryn Hinch please...and yes some people should leave SA.
SA needs active people not lounge chair experts...who sound like they have never had children of their own but know how to punish them? what's with that.
Please people follow the road rules...take care and drive safely

I witnessed an 8 year old girl crushed to death between two cars when a p-plater decided to do a burn out on a packed esplanade on a hot summer's day in Melbourne 25 years ago and lost control.

Go tell her parents it is ok to hoon. Her father tried to free her mangled body from between the cars and I can only imagine the pain he has had to endure. It scarred me for life and I didn't even know the girl.

Every driver needs to be put on a skid pan and made to lose control of a car. Only then will they understand how easy it is for your car to kill. The fortunate ones have already lost control of a car without anyone or anything coming to grief. We are fortunate because it has imprinted a caution sign in our minds.

Not long after getting my license (many years ago) I was turning the eastern freeway in Melbourne and the on ramp was a hairpin bend. it was peak hour and a steady stream of traffic was merging with me. It had been raining and right on the hairpin I hit a patch of oil or fuel. I did a 360 deg loop virtually on the spot and ended up facing the way I was heading and proceeded onto the freeway before pulling over to scrape out my pants.

It was a miracle I didn't hit aanything but it taught me a valuable lesson about the potential hazards on our roads. The thing is I was actually doing the posted 40 km/h posted "caution sign" limit at the time. To this day I am one of the slowest drivers on wet roads.

People that drive a 300 h/p car sideways on a dry road are far more dangerous. It's not usually whilst the burnout is in progress that they are out of control of the vehicle. it's the moment the tyres get hot enough to regain grip and the car suddenly transfers all that power into accelaration that they don't have the experience to control.

There is absolutely no place for hooning on public roads. For every hoon that kills someone or themselves on our roads there are countless more maimed . Sometimes the ones that actually die are the lucky ones. Anyone that can look at an amputee or vegetable with the knowledge they are the victim of a reckless driver and then say hooning is fine needs a straight jacket.

If they blocked car parks & other such areas off it would halve their problems (the police that is). They could have more manpower for hunting down murderers, drug dealers etc. Newton Plaza car park they refuse to close off. It\'s happening all the time getting worse. Despite emails & complaints. They have the nerve to try to arrest me for loitering (i was calling a cab at the time, police complaints said it wasn\'t worth their time tracking down the one paddy wagon in Modbury at 1am that morning. They won\'t block off car parks when they aren\'t being used. South Australia, Adelaide police are shockers. I have no time for the cops, I see something dodgy happening I don\'t even bother ringing it in anymore. Nothing gets done.

Screw these cops, they make driving suck. I want to come up with a system that will easily disable their cars electronically.
