Volvo S60 Cross Country sedan to debut in Detroit

Volvo will debut a new soft-roader variant of its 60-Series range, the Volvo S60 Cross Country sedan, at next week's Detroit motor show.

It seems as though the S60 Cross Country will feature all of the same tweaks applied to the V60 Cross Country wagon. Both cars sit on a suspension package that rides 65mm higher than regular S60 and V60 variants.

There's also grey wheel arch extensions that house higher profile rubber wrapped around either 18- or 19-inch wheels, depending on the model.

Volvo claims that the S60 Cross Country will be the first off-road capable sedan from a premium brand. The idea, though, isn't entirely new, with Subaru having sold a sedan variant of its Outback soft-roader for two generations in North America.

Drivetrain options available include a 186kW/361Nm 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder petrol engine paired with all-wheel drive, a 142kW turbo-diesel four-cylinder with front-wheel drive, and an all-wheel drive 2.5-litre turbo-diesel five-cylinder.

The Volvo S60 Cross Country goes on sale overseas from around the middle of the year. Australian availability has yet to be confirmed.
